Decent Hotel in the Center of Brisbane

The location was perfect for people doing business in Brisbane. There were a few problems. My room lock didn't work reliably, not because of a bad electronic key, but because the mechanism inside was getting loose. They fixed it, but how could the cleaning staff not noticed the problem. Internet access was AUS$29/day -- a ridiculous amount, but not too different from other Australian hotels. Worse, the conference I was at was charged an even more ridiculous rate for Internet at the conference, and the hotel limited use to 8AM-6PM. But the hotel has access to the Central station, which is only 25 minutes by train from the airport. You do need to learn to navigate the area around the hotel, because it is on a steep hill, and the most convenient exit is 3 escalators (no elevator) down from the lobby.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Go out the lower (Ann St.) exit, cross ANZAC Square, and you will find a really nice food court with a good veg restaurant and many other choices for breakfast or lunch. Unfortunately, by 6PM this, and most of the other food courts in the area, close.

Well located in easy walking distance

Well located in easy walking distance to the centre of town. Has all the facilitaies that you'd expect. The view from the room was pretty ordinary and accessing the Internet was expensive but the food (breakfast) was excellent.

The location is stunning, especially

The location is stunning, especially for those who travel by train, including overseas guests who can get the train straight from the airport to the Sofitel Hotel without going outside - important in summer! I travelled from the Gold Coast and got out at Central, the Hotel is right at the Station as I had to attend a Ball there that night. Decor in foyer is exquisite with fresh roses everywhere and the view of Brisbane is spectacular. The breakfast package is worth it, best breakfast choices anywhere. I have just returned from Europe but the Sofitel Brisbane is as good as any 5 star hotel I stayed in, including London and Paris.

Location superb. Train station

Location superb. Train station to/from Airport is directly under the hotel - no need to walk outside, connected by escalators from hotel lobby. One block away from Queen St. mall. Shop in the City package value is second to none. Great service. Breakfast is fabulous - one of the best I've experienced. Rooms pleasant and comfortable. Decor is a LITTLE dated, but doesn't take away from the overall experience. The best choice for Brisbane 5* accommodation.

The location and convenience of

The location and convenience of the "old Sheraton" were what prompted me to stay at this hotel for 2 nights prior to an overseas trip. I found the new Sofitel lacked the atmosphere of the old Sheraton. It smelt of old spice aftershave in the lobby, an aroma that together with the darkness of the decor and the rooms to me reeked of "adultery". In my opinion I would not be staying again at the old Sheraton as it has changed and is not suitable for an uplifting break for someone like me who lives in Western Qld. I did not feel any warmth emanating from the reception staff .When I went to Malaysia the following day after my stay Iwas greeted only with broad smiles and friendship everywhere I went. Sorry but thats how I feel.Otherwise facilities are fantastic especially the view of the pool deck from the lift lobby when the "Blues" arrived and were doing their stretches.

Location was very good being right

Location was very good being right above train station and therefore right in the city. Room had a stale smell and wasnt spotlessly clean, which is not what you expect from Sofitel and certaianly not for the price. Didnt find staff overly pleasant or helpful. Overall stay was just ok, and unlikely we will return. High Tea was very enjoyable and recommended.

Room was spartan, benchtops dirty

Room was spartan, benchtops dirty with stains from drink glasses. Complaint resulted in another room being allocated. "Interactive dining experience" is another name for a buffet. Understaffed, poor service.

Room comfortable, good bed linen,

Room comfortable, good bed linen, well located. Room service food very ordinary( I ate 3 dinners in room service so it wasn't a one off disappointment. The cafe-restuarant was also uninspiring .At full tariff, I would select elsewhere.

Taking advantage of a Summer Experience

Taking advantage of a Summer Experience Package for a weekend stay to celebrate a special birthday certainly lived up to to its promotion. The package included parking and interactive breakfast. All staff were very friendly and efficient. It was the little things like the receptionist on check in, discovering it was a special celebration, arranged a room upgrade and more importantly when seeing us at breakfast the next day came and said "hello" and wished a happy birthday. Congratulations to all at the Sofitel!!
