The location was excellent for
The location was excellent for us within walking distance of the Queen Victoria Market and Graduate House, University of Melbourne. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful.

A smile from the reception staff
A smile from the reception staff would have been a nice touch, the room was great plenty of room nice beds, a short walk to Etihad stadium was fantastic, a little more info on nearby eating places would have been handy, not just the pub next door even though that was great, the only thing was that you could hear the people in the next room talking, and the cleaner thumping through the other rooms, the breakfast was included in the price it was fantastic. Would stay again.....

The only negative was the fact
The only negative was the fact that the window in the room is a slide up and down type, so there is a gap which meant you could here the trafic and people going past all night. Made it hard to sleep, also the window only had venitian style blinds which didn't keep the light out from the street lights outside.

Sofia presents itself as a "new"
Sofia presents itself as a "new" hotel and a "4 star" hotel. It is, in fact an old hotel, recently renovated, and is, at best, a 21/2 - 3 star rating. Their practice of holding a $150 "security bond" is questionable, although they do advise this in their conditions, so is no surprise. This suggests that they may have too many unsavoury guests who cause problems for them. But with no mini-bar, guest robes etc to walk away with, what other justification is there for for the bond.

Rooms are too close together,
Rooms are too close together, cleaning is either too slow or non existent in between even though we asked the cleaners on the way out of the hotel to make our room, the cleaners even checked the cleaning list and we were on the list. The provision of breakfast was a great benefit.

The rooms were adequate size and
The rooms were adequate size and very clean and smart. Good showers too. They also own the pub next door so you can access the bar via an adjoining door. The breakfast is great value and good too. Would definately stay there again.
