Elegant Melbourne hotel close to major attractions and boutiques
Situated on Swanston Street mere steps from some of Melbourne's finest boutiques, the Swanston Hotel Melbourne Grand Mercure offers a bit of luxury in the heart of it all. The Bourke Street Mall, Federation Square, Crown Casino and Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre are all within a short walk. Upstairs, accommodations are downright plush; rooms feature high-end amenities and windows that actually open (a rarity in most major Australian cities). Two on-site restaurants, The Loudon Kitchen & Grill and Soul Cafe, serve a variety of light bites, while a lounge, dubbed Cocoon Bar, offers a pizza menu alongside its drink list.

Location, Location, Location
A bit short of what I've come to expect from a four-star hotel, the best thing going for this hotel is its location, so close to great shopping, restaurants, and attractions. There is some loud construction going on right outside, but we were pleased that we could hear nothing at all from our 12th floor room. Water pressure in the shower was less than good, but all else ok. Front desk staff very helpful. No fitness center, but free wifi and a great bar within the hotel.

In Hotel
Take advantage of the Cocoon Bar, right inside the hotel. When we checked in, we were given a discount card for the bar, and it worked well throughout our stay. Great drinks, and good ambiance.

Great Location
While not as luxurious as we've come to expect of four-star places, this hotel has excellent location and puts you within walking distance of great shopping, restaurants and Melbourne sights and attractions. There is some construction going on outside, but could not hear it from our 12th floor room. Water pressure in shower could be better, but other than that all really very good.

A great place to stay
The hotel is located at a great location in downtown Melbourne. Banks, shopping malls and a great variety of restaurants are within walking distance including the Chinese restaurants in China town which is just half a block away from the hotel. The staff were very polite and helpful. The only downside is that there was no wireless connection in the lobby. To access the internet, I had to pay $5 for two hours or $10 for 24 hours. I will stay at this hotel again if I ever visit Melbourne again.

Staff very friendly. Room clean.
Staff very friendly. Room clean. Bed very comfortable. Room needed refurbishing, rubboer pads not replaced on toiled seat, problem with the tap. No offer of a morning newspaper. Hair products provided but not moistuizer. Reception area, halls and room lots of scuff marks- looking very tired. This hotel was more a 3 star quality with a 4.5 star price - very expenseive for what was offered.
