Good price to quality

I fly frequently to Rio and I am really excited of finally having found a great option: great quality for the value, good beds, great location, and excellent service... if you go in business this is a centric location and you may even have time to jog around copacabana..

Average Hotel, great location

Oh boy... The rooms on the hotel website looked great... We surely didn't get one of those!!!! The room was small, no views, two single beds.... man.... The pool up the roof is nice.... But it is only 3 feet deep!!!!! The crowd is old...mostly seniors. No fun there.

On Copacabana Beach

Nice Hotel, But 2 days in a row someone went through my suit case and pants pockets while I was at the pool. The first day they only got a few dollars in loose Brazilian change that was in my pants pocket, I was using my safe and recommend that to all. This was a petty thief and only took Brazilian money, no personal items were missing. The second day I arranged my belongings in a manner I would know that someone had moved them, sure enough 2 days in a row someone went through my stuff. Hotel management did nothing about this, keep any valuables or money in the safe that is in the room when you do not have it with you.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

You are on Copacabana Beach walk the beach, this Hotel is maybe 2 blocks from the Copacabana Palace Hotel, there are plenty of good resturants and places to have a beer too. They do not [*] but be careful the tourist are sometimes easy prey for petty thieft. Plenty of organized tours if you are into that also.

Porto Bay Rio January 2010

The hotel was great, but the location not so hot. The neighborhood is not a good one to walk around in; next visit to Rio we will probably rent a private apartment in Ipanema or Leblon. But, for a first time visit, you couldn't ask for better. The only complaint was that the front desk staff, while very helpful and friendly, was spread too thin among the full hotel's guests and not always available.

Very nice in all respects

This is an excellent hotel. The minute we arrived, our bags were immediately collected and we enjoyed a glass of champagne in the lobby while we waited for our room to be ready (5-10 mins). We were upgraded from a side view room to an ocean view -- just an amazing view from the balcony. The service was great, the room was spotless. Bathroom was a bit small, but the shower was really good. My only complaint is that the internet was very expensive (40 R$), so we only paid for it for one day. View from the rooftop bar/pool was amazing. Very recommended for couples.

Money-saving tip: Long walk from hotel

We walked down Ipanema beach and didn't find it superior in any way, really. At least in low season, don't bother paying super-high prices for mediocre accomodations.

Highly recommend!!!

The staff was very friendly. When I checked in, they served us sparkling wine. They took care of every travel tip possible. They treated us like royalty. The rooms were clean. We had a balcony overlooking the beach, which was beautiful. It was right across the street to Copacabana, which made it convenient. The continental breakfast was outstanding. They had a wide variety of things to eat, which I was expecting bread and coffee. The rooftop bar had a great view of the city; one can see Sugar loaf mountain and Corcovado. However, the pool is small, which did not make a difference because of the view. They had a sauna and a shower. The fitness center had everything you needed for a good work out. I highly recommend this place.

Greatest Vacation Ever!

The Port Bay Rio was a great way to end our amazing trip to Brazil. We stayed in a triple which was perfect for three people who had been traveling together for ten days. The beach access was perfect. We were offered towels and chairs to stay on the beautiful beach. The hotel was a reasonable cab ride to all the main sights in Rio. I would definitely reccommend this hotel.

Time-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If you are only doing a short trip make sure you make a small amount of time to hang out. It is a big part of rio culture and really fun. We did not have a lot of time for that beacuse we were seeing other sights and we really wished we had more beach time.

Great hotel near the beach and close to everythind

Copacobana beach is across the street, Quick Gelatos is 1 block over (the best chicken in rio!) and the breakfast buffet was outstanding. two block walk to buses to take you everywhere, an $8 US cab ride to most anything in Ipanema, and quiet comfortable rooms for private moments. definitely will stay there again on our return to rio
