Taste of old Shanghai in historic hotel on Nanjing Road
This three-star historic property appeals to budget travelers seeking a taste of old Shanghai. The nine-story Italian Renaissance main building dates to 1926 and features an ornate marble lobby with soaring columns and coffered ceilings. The location on Nanjing Road across from People's Park is an ideal base for sightseeing. People's Square lies a block south. A mile-long stroll east along the Nanjing Road pedestrian mall takes guests to the Bund. Superior city view rooms offer some upgrades plus stunning views.

Some were great, some were not fine
Went to shopping around hotel, the hotel location is great just in center of shanghai's most popular business circle.

pacific hotel jin jiang
this is an older hotel set in a good location. the rooms are large and well suited for western travelers. the front desk staff can speak english and for the most part are helpful.

Short walk from hotel
the metro is a short walk from the hotel. use the #7 or #8 exits off the #2 line. if you want to take metro from pudong airport take the #2 line and get off at peoples square. beware that you have to get off the train and continue on another train to get into the city. look at the train route its the stop with a large circle and starts with a g. get off the train and walk accros the platform to the other train. almost all of the people will do the same so watch for the rush.

Elegance, comfort location, value
My second stay, even better than the first. Do try to upgrade one level, as this elegant old lady of a hotel is such a treat. Built in the 1920's, you will love the carvings in stone and wood. Staff is friendly, professional, with good English. Charm. Comfort. Real hot water whenever you want it. GREAT location, right across from People's Square park. Reservations easy and accurate. Free internet (ethernet). Take Metro 2 direct from Pudong Airport to the hotel. Shopping, food, museums, festivals. Take a dawn walk across the street to the park to see the seniors do their tai chi. Lovely old coffee shop with wine and desert for your evening. Price is very low for this much elegance, one of the best values I have ever found.

You are in the center of Shanghai, easy access to the entire area and high speed rail. This is a grand way to start your China adventure, or just enjoy beautiful Shanghai. My first trip to China, what a grand surprise!!!

Excellent Stay in Shanghai
Elegant old building right in the center of Shanghai, a fine location right across from beautiful People's Park. Go walk the paths in the morning to see the people doing their taichi in the dawn. Budget rooms are quite attractive and comfortable, quiet, with very nice appointments. The more expensive rooms are as elegant as any older hotel in the US. This place is just charming! The staff speaks English quite well, even down to the courteous doormen. I did not eat in the hotel, but the restaurant and coffee shop look just fine. Location is right at the head of a fabled shopping street. Only downside was that the internet speed is a bit slow and there is a minor cost per day for access (Ethernet, not wireless). Room power is typical 220v, which Apple handles automatically. Bathroom was old style but pleasingly comfortable. I am returning to book another night here.

Short walk from hotel
Just go walk around. You are at the core, the very center of an historic city. There is so much to see here, all within walking distance. The staff is quite helpful to tourists. I felt totally welcomed and supported. Oh, take time to tour the hotel itself. The carvings, marble, the whole elegance of this place will take you back to a slower and more gracious world.

Perfect place to start
My first night in China, what a perfect place to start! Elegant older hotel, handcrafted decor, marble and carved wood. Excellent service, good English and easy checkin, courteous staff with English, comfortable rooms with good appointments. Location is excellent, right across from beautiful People's Park. Can take MagLev then Metro Line 2 right to the front door. My best comparison would be downtown San Francisco. I feel welcomed with grace and charm, all for very reasonable prices.

Step across the street to People's Park. Go just after dawn, and enjoy the taichi going on everywhere. People are so gracious and kind. There is great peace in the heart of this city.

The Pacific Hotel Shanghai is
The Pacific Hotel Shanghai is rather average, although location is very good. It has all the facilities required but don't expect any great quality. What is bad is the Internet - it is so slow that I could not connect to my e-mail so I switched it off after 10 minutes usage, but they still charged me for 24 hours even if the note in the room says 1 yuan per minute. Also you can hear guests in next rooms and the basin was blocked.

To reach
The Hotel room is old, To reach the Hotel Lobby must go by stairs. To reach the standared room must go by elvatours then use the stairs down or up.
