Nestled in the mountains, adjacent to the immense tropical rain forest internationally known as one of the worlds premiere wildlife sanctuaries; the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. The Hotel Belmar is owned and operated by the Belmar family. It is a beautiful mountain hotel, consisting of two Austrian Chalet style buildings with wood paneling and French doors. We offer spectacular views combined with the beauty of the surrounding primary and secondary forest. The hotel offers tours reservation, security box, transportation, free internet connexion, garden view, bar, restaurant, conference room, pool table, jacuzzi, natural trails around a stream for bird watching. In appreciation of Costa Ricas natural heritage, meals are homemade (bread, granola, marmalade) with ingredients produced within the country, most from local farms.

Close the doors to the balcony

Enjoyed our stay overall, and this is a very good hotel. The breakfast was healthy, fresh, and abundant, however dinner was very expensive and average. You would do better in Santa Elena. The habit of the hotel of opening the sliding doors before your arrival lets in plenty of fresh air and mosquitos. Close them immediately, and when you enjoy the balcony overlooking the ocean in the distance. Our first night was spent sleeping with insect repellant generously sprayed on ourselves. If you don't know already bring a warm jacket and rain gear. The roads to Santa Elena and Monteverde which run together, include very rough unsaved sections. SUV is recommended to jumps the rocks and potholes, but didn't need 4 wheel drive in the dry season. The very short, last, unpaved section to the hotel was one of the worst. Roads are scraped and mended sproratically. The hotel staff was delightful and helpful. Enjoy!

Try the best meal I had in 2 weeks in Costa Rica at the Trio in Santa Elena, creative fusion food with smart local ingredients.

Great property, great room!

Well located. Nicely located... not too far from the town of Santa Elena and Monteverde and Santa Elena preserves, overlooks forest and nice view of the Pacific in the distance. One of the nicest (more upscale) properties in the region. Professional attentive staff. Very good breakfast with outstanding view from dining area. We opted for one of the more expensive rooms which came with 125 degree window view, balcony and an indoor Jacuzzi. Even so, the cost was significantly lower, room better maintained room and better overall experience than at Monteverde Lodge & Gardens (which was also a very good experience overall).

Beautiful Lodge

Helpful staff, a beautiful wooden room, and it's in the town of Santa Elana. Breakfast was also very good. Was a great place to stay.

Peaceful, comfortable, hospitable

We loved Hotel Belmar and cannot wait to return. We wanted a place to relax an enjoy the beauty of Monteverde, and this family hotel hit the mark. The room was great, food was excellent, staff was courteous and helpful. And we had easy access to enjoy the adventures and ecotourism that Monteverde has to offer.

the best thing about coming to Monteverde was actually the drive there. Hotel is pretty, nothing more. Buffet sucks, had a room with floor to ceiling window that we could not open due to lack of screening =insect infestation. No AC, great staff, though.
