Room is very noisey and it was difficult to sleep. Location of hotel is very far from town. No taxi- would take 2 hours. No public transportation and no roads to walk on. Food in the hotel is extremely expensive and few selection to choose from.

great spring break getaway
I was very surprised at the location of the hotel, off the beaten path on Potrero beach this hotel was very good for a family vacation. You definitely needed a car to get around, htere si nothing around the hotel for miles. I would definitely not recommend it for singles or people looking for more activities or easy access to town, night life etc. The hotel staff was very kind but everything was overpriced, taxi ride, tours, outrageously expensive. I don't think it was worth the money. I would have prefered to stay in playa Tamarindo, Conchal or Flamingo. My grand-son and I spent a lot of time in the pool, driving around and enjoying the sunsets. This trip was unique, very restful, I only wish it was a better location.

Bahia Del Sol better than most in C.R.
The hotel is in a good location on the pacific coastline of Guanacaste. There are a couple small towns nearby...very small, pretty much just a main street, but a few restaurants and a couple one room markets to pick up some basics for the kitchenette in the room. I suggest traveling back towards Tamarindo for a real supermarket to stock up on supplies...maybe a 15 to 20 minute ride to the first market. After taking the main road into the area, you will travel a dirt road for about a mile to the hotel. In November the road was in good condition. There are other homes and lodges in the area, so you aren't out in the boonies. The hotel has some age on it, you can tell by the rooms, but they are clean. The grounds are very nice. a grassy courtyard area with a pool that leads out beyond a wall to the beach. The sand is dark here, and the beach pretty barren, so at first sight, it appears kind of dirty and desolate. There are fishing boats, and sailboats down the beach a couple hundred yards. We did find however that the water is fine. The look of the sand and beach grows on you the longer you're there, and distant rock formations in the water and the shape of the bay with its tropical foliage once you get off the sand is really very pretty. Sunsets are very nice, with the sunset sky blazing in orange and pink hues off the scattered clouds. They have a nice restaurant and the employees do their best to make it an enjoyable stay for their guests. We ran into a few problems with the room they put us in initially. Bad tv reception, lights burnt out. The toilet wouldn't shut off. these were maintenance items that take away from the experience and make you wonder why you're paying $200 a night for the hotel. We requested a room change the next morning and ended up getting room 310. It was on the second story, two bedroom, 2 bath, with a kitchen, living room, large outside balcony with couches, etc. It was, in my opinion the best room in the place. We were happy after that and enjoyed the stay very much. I will suggest however, that there is a newer small boutique hotel just 10 minutes up the road that we stayed at for one night called Hotel Sugar Beach. There are no kitchens in the rooms, but it is secluded and really a place to remember. Rooms are around $140 and worth it.

30th anniversary traveling couple
Quaint and private
When we arrived I was very disappointed... the drive in was full of potholes and then a gravel parking lot that lacked any appeal. The rooms were dated and a little tv. Racoons in the ceiling so sleep was not good. The beach was black sand/dirt but very private. The staff was great and helpful. Internet is a daily 10 charge and impossibly slow. Don't order the hamburger as it was uneatable yet they didn't take it off the bill. Other items on the menu were surprisingly good (pork and chicken). The surf is very small on this beach because it is protected by some islands. If you want surf you will have to travel to Flamingo beach about 3 miles away. Restaurants in the area are ok but expensive (30=40 dollars a plate). I didn't realize the cost of eating out in Costa Rica. Note that taxes and tip on everything at 23% over listed prices. The pool was adequate but very small. Never had a problem with finding a lounge chair, but the hotel was empty while we were there. If the hotel was booked, we would have been out of luck (5 on the beach and maybe 14 on the grass).

Weekend Gateway
Hotel is about 1 hr west of Liberia Airport and it sits in a gravel road. Road is dusty and not well kept. Plenty of restaurants in the area. They are all expensive but tasty. I would recommend to stay elsewhere, much nice places in other parts of Costa Rica.

Nice place
Followed 36 reviews 4.2 and booked. Cost $80.00 and 1 hour to get there which was ok but no free shuttle. So incorporate this in your cost. 23 rooms, nicely equiped and clean but not perfect. . Air conditioning was great. Food was good but meals satisfaction varies from great to average depending on day. Sat was awesome, Sunday average. Monday Ok. Need more consistency. Staff was very good, not excellent. Emphasis was on savings, I could sense it. Cost to travel around is twice if normal travel in U.S. Food prices the same as U.S and maybe dearer. Two coffees at airport were $13..00 Be advised there is a departure tax of $28.00 per person. Airport is new but disorganized. Give this country another 5 years and it will be fantastic. Beautiful and rugged. They need some management from people who have lived abroad if they want to attract a stable tourism industry. Their tourism right now is setting records but bottom line I felt a little gouged. Held up the aircraft for 30 minutes on departure because of one person not paying their departure tax. This is Costa Rica. I will come back but felt the country is a liittle bit disorganized for this day. Caribbean still a 5 times better choice at this time in my opinion unless you are prepared for the unexpected and do not mind. I would rate this hotel 4.5 for relaxation as it is quiet and no tourist feel of the large resorts. If they can do it this could be a 5 star place if they upped the food and made the rooms a little nicer. Nice boutique type hotel overall.

beach getaway
For starters, we had a delicious mango mint welcome.drink made with Costa Rican sugar cane rum. That was a great start. The room itself was nice...we had a standard.room with 2 double bed. We slept on the inner sheet that you would normally cover yourself with because the fitted sheet was dirty with sand and dirt. Not cool. Otherwise, the bathroom was clean. A safe was provided for valuable items. A big problem is the number of mosquitoes in the room. Clearly the windows didn't keep them out and we were bitten multiple times in our sleep. The decor of the hotel is nice. They have hammocks in front of the rooms which are unique and comfy. Breakfast was included with our stay which was great. The staff was kind and allowed us a late checkout of 1pm. One of the most awesome things about this place is it's location on playa portero. We felt like we were on our own private beach. The sand is a dark brown/black which is different for us and is underated by most beacuse of the other beaches nearby (playa conchal, brasilito, and flamingo). The sand felt like velvet in the water. The view of the sunset from here is amazing.

If you enjoy seafood, el coconut restaurant across.the way has a delicious bbq whole red snapper that comes with rice and steamed vegetables. The bbq is done argentinian style and you can watch the chef cook it on the unique-style grill. She stuffed the inside of the fish with tomatoes, onions, and bay leaves. What flavor! This was enough for 2of us and we split a fried calamari dish as well.

lovely beach and pool area
The breakfast that was included with the nightly rate was the same breakfast everyday. It seem s they could vary the menu for people staying multiple nights. Overall, I very nice stay. We had a 2 bedroom upstairs unit with full kitchen. It was spacious and comfortable with also a nice patio overlooking trees with ocean in the distance. Swim up bar was a lot of fun! Very pleasant pool and beach right next to each other. Staff was very friendly. We had appetizers at the hotel but no other food. It was a little pricey and not that great. There is a cafe at a small hotel 0ne block from here called La Chola with very good food and the best horchata I've ever had!
