I wasted my money
I went out there it took them 1 full hour to find my reservation, get to the room, the sheets are so old that they no longer white but off white, every morning I woke up with back pain, this hotel is living off their past glory... the food is not fresh, I spend a week with diarrhea, fool tasted like 3 to 4 days old and my gosh they need a better smoking policy...by far that was my worst vacation

SATY AWAY!!!!!!!!!
All I can say is that no matter how good some of the reviewers make this place sound…just sat NO!!!!! It’s just not worth it. From the room to the staff. It was a complete waste of money. The weather was about 75-80 degree and sunny everyday and I could not wait to come back to the rigid winter of Jersey just so that I can get out of the hotel…that’s how bad it was. ROOM: First of all we arrived after 4 and the room was not ready even though check-in was at 3. As soon as we walked in the room the room there was a horrible stench and we had no idea what it was or where it was coming from. When we called the service desk to let them know about it, they said that they were going to send someone to look at it in a few minutes. But no one showed up…EVER!! SERVICE: We had to go to a wedding and we called the service desk to send someone to help us with our luggage. The first guy we spoke to told us that he was going to send someone in 5 minutes, about half hour later I called again and the girl told us that none is available right now, but she would call us back in 5 minutes. We ended up taking the bags downstairs ourselves. And whenever we had a question, the staff always seem like we were asking for a lung or they 1st born. FOOD: Well, the a la carte places seem to always b closed for some reason. When we were finally able to make a reservation to the “French” restaurant the majority of the menu was priced. After that we just decided not to even bother with the other 2 places. Since people have different taste when it comes to food I’m just going to talk for myself…IT WAS JUST HORRIBLE (breakfast was ok)!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great Family Getaway
Very nice beach with great snorkling. Walks on the beach in either direction very interesting. Clean sandy beach and calm. Security guards on the beach at all time. The beach has many palm trees and other tropical trees nicely spread permitting finding sun or shade and is not overcrowded. The hotel shows some age but is clean and has everything needed, super close to water. Don't make expectations for a fancy place. If you go do Dominican Republic for a luxurous hotel not just sun and nice sandy beach, go elswhere. Barcelo is absolutely correct, definitely not disappointing and has some taste in its aged look. Staff friendly although very proud as the whole nation. evening entertainment very clasy, good music, good dances and very fun. Food totally fine, served always on table cloth and glass. Only beach and pool drinks in plastic cups for safety. The only drag are beach vendors. They are friendly and just working poor people. But there are way too many for one beach, it is iimpossible to take a nap or read a book, every 2-3 minutes someone is trying to sell you something. Best is to stay under the trees deeper into the beach.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
General access all-inclisive restaurants are full of all sorts of good foods. Try native foods and exotic meals rather than burgers and pasta. Avoid pork and beef. Get fish ans sea foods. When you reserve a table on the beach restaurant, you have a lesser choice actually. But it is more romantic and fancier.
