Tropical setting, Scary Room

The staff was friendly and there were always alot of activities going on. The food was good and the drinks were delicious. You can't beat the weather that we had and it was enjoyable to take nice long walks on the beach. You could snorkel and see loads of fish right in front of the hotel. The rooms were horribly outdated though and i was afraid that my son was going to get tetanus from the air conditioning unit. The bathroom was totally outdated and we never had warm water for a shower. There was a lockout room and you could see through the crack by the door into the other persons room.

Great for the price

The hotel is very big, nice bilingual staff, nice clean pools and a giant beach area. The food was plentiful and the Mexican restaraunt has a great taco/burrito bar. The entertainers are hilarious and there are always activities to do. I have been to an all inclusive in boca chica for more money and it was half the size and half the fun.

worst vacation

their was no transportation provided as said in the web site, also when we got to the room the telphone in the room did not work, tv was very snowy, not enough towels and the beds are hard. down comforters in the tropics? the hotel was very noisy, constant loud music all night andmost of the day. the pump room for the pool and hot tub had a loud whine you could hear even on the beach! the weekend was a rush of locals that swarmed the restaurants. you could wait in line for 20 min. and when you got to the food it was all gone. The hot tub was so full of people and inflatables it looked like a cartoon. the ocean was very rough so you could'nt snorkel or swim comfortably. s lot of the chaise lounges on the beach were broken, you couldn't raise them to a sitting position. the elevators were boken, we were on the 3 floor. so only 1 was working at a time and only held 4 people. food was mediocre, the stakff was friendly. we managed to fix the tv ourselves so we had tv forthe last 3 days. the staff did fix the phone the day before we left. no shampoo or lotion in the room and it took me 3 trips up and down the stairs to the front desk just to get a washcloth. we both were unimpressed with the hotel and location, I have crossed santo domingo off th vacation list. we had to pay and extra 90$ us toget transportation the web site should not say transportation provided!

Good family all-inclusive for a budget

My husband, our 5 year-old son, and I were visiting family in Santo Domingo and wanted to spend the weekend at a resort. We chose Juan Dollio because it is close to the city, but further than Boca Chica (local's beach). It was about an hour drive from the city (30 mins from the airport), so my son didn't get too restless in the car. Upon arriving, we entered a large, welcoming lobby and were able to check-in with-in minutes (they spoke English pretty well). Our room overlooked the ocean and was very close to one of their 2 pools. It was a little bit of a walk, but they did have an elevator. The room was about average: it needed a better air conditioner (only had on or off), the TV was small and didn't have a remote (they ran out of them), but it had a balcony and was very clean. The buffet was very limited, only 1 row of food choices and had almost NOTHING for my son to eat. The good news is that they do have 3 a la carte restaurants (Mexican, Italian, and Dominican) that you can eat at for free and without a reservation. We only ate at the Mexican, because our son got restless waiting. For him, the best was the snack bar located by the beach. It had pizza, hot dogs and hamburgers. It is open from mid day to around 6PM. It reopens after the show around 10PM, so if you didn't like th4e buffet, you need to wait awhile to eat. The bar is limited to shot and a pop or local Presidente beer (not bad), but there are plenty of frozen, tropical choices. Most of the bartenders spoke only Spanish (except the names of popular drinks) and there were so many Dominicans there (80%). The best part was the kid's club. It opens from 9AM to 5PM. Kids over 5 can be left there (no charge) or like us, you can stay to play with your child. They have their own kiddy pool and club house full of activities with 1 baby-sitter and 1 lifeguard (pool was like 2 feet deep). Bottom-line: Good for families with younger kids who don't want to spend too much or drive too far.

There are 3 restaurant besides the buffet, 2 of which are behind the casino and you don't need a reservation. Try to eat before 8PM and there is no wait.

Not a bad trip at all!

Friday-Sunday the hotel becomes crowded with locals who stay one or two nights. Although everything became more busy, it was great to mingle with the locals and learn more about the country. The rooms are older and do not have the amenities that many of us are used too, such as: coffee in the rooms and shampoo and conditioner. I brought my own toiletries but when we checked in they did say if you needed shampoo/conditioner/soap/toothbrush or extra towels just to ask the front desk. The first night we were there we did not have hot water but it was fixed quickly and the power flickered once. (We talked to someone else staying at another hotel who also experienced small and short power losses too). The staff was very friendly and helpful! The pools and the beach were very nice and the nightly entertainment consisted of a local dance group, they also involved the audience to make it fun! The food was great but we traveled during a slow tourist season so they didn't open all of the restaurants until the weekend...however the buffet was delicious and varied everyday. The beach has peddlers that hang out on it trying to get you to buy their stuff but they too are very friendly and wont bother you more than once a day! They give awesome deals, even better than the local stores. Make sure you check out some of the shops down the beach road though, because the people are great and they have a larger variety of items. Overall our experience was very good, and we would stay again and reccommend this hotel to anyone wanting to take a vacation in this price range. Make sure to take the Santo Domingo tour and the Saona Island tour as well! Both are great and not very expensive!

Not my best choice...

As a Tour Director, they offered to upgrade my room for free, to a wonderful sized suite. This was a very good first impression. The entry to the hotel was amazing. The beach area was better than most other's in the area. However, the food was not as good as any of the other All-Incisive resorts that we have frequented. The Spa experience was the worst of all of the Spas that we have visited, very unprofessional, from the manager (Doctor) at the Spa to the Director over the Spa, very unsatisfied…

Nice getaway

My overall experience was good. I did enjoy the great beach location, and variety of food. My best impression was on staff. They were extremely friendy and warm, which made me feel very comfortable. The only thing that had a negative impact on my impression was the noise from other rooms (you can hear almost everything because of a double door located in your room which is connected to the other room), the noise from outside because of some very loud local tourists, and also some small issues with the room comfort.
