NewHotel Saint Charles " ex Select"

Very friendly, warm service. Family atmosphere. The room had some strange elements: clear red plastic chairs and night tables, apparently no way to turn on the night lights at the bed, and the knobs to turn on the water for the shower and bath are down low, necessitating bending over when taking a shower to adjust the temperature. Not fun when one has a sensitive back. Loved the interior decorating in the lobby and breakfast room. Colorful ethnic neighborhood...

The front desk staff were confused with our reservation. They made us verify that we had actually booked online with Orbitz by printing off our email receipt on their computer. Only then did they give us a room. The room smelled of fresh paint. Nothing like being high on paint fumes on your honeymoon. The hotel IS close to the train station and Vieux Port, however this is a very shady/dirty area of town. At checkout the next morning the receptionist (different one from the night before) asked us to pay for our room - Of which we had already paid online with Orbitz previously AND the receptionist before had confirmed with our online printout. Poor communication, average rooms -- I honestly have experienced better service at European hostels than New Hotel Select. Don't select it.

near the train station, not very nice neighbourhood. Wifi only works at hall. No private parking place, public parking is 50m away from the hotel. Room is clean, big enough, fare facilities.

Very clean comfy hotel close to the station. Breakfast was more than adequate,in a bright room.

The only real problem I had was that the bath had no plug so had to sit in the bath and use the hand-held shower. Did manage to temporarily plug the bath using a plastic bag which made for a slightly more pleasant experience. Only there for the one night so didn't bother complaining to the hotel staff. Sure they would have sorted it out if I had as they were very pleasant and helpful when it came to parking.

We stayed here as it was near the station because of our Eurail pass. Not knowing what to expect, it was a wonderful surprise! The hotel. room, staff and breakfast all first class. Just a few metres to the tram stop which took us right into the centre of Bordeaux. Highly recommended. Would stay again.

Our stay at this hotel was the beginning of a multi-week vacation. We arrived in the evening after flying for 15 hours and an hour bus ride from the airport. The first room we were given had a wet carpet because the carpet had been shampooed earlier in the day and had not dried; there was also a musty smell in the room. The next room had two single beds pushed together despite the fact that our reservation was for a queen. The desk clerk insisted that there were no queens available and we would have to accept the two singles. At no time during our 3 nights did anyone from the hotel make any attempt to rectify this problem, or offer any additional consideration for not being able to provide the promised accommodation. Don't believe the information this French hotel provides in their advertisements.
