My review of Holiday Inn PARIS-RePUBLIQUE

The room telephone, television and safe didn't work. I had to come down to the receptionist desk five times. The hotel technical staff came to the room three times and the manager once. The safe was fixed. The television couldn't convert to English. The phone was not fixed. My cousin stayed at a differnt room of the differnt floor. We had a hard time communicate because we couldn't use the room telephone. I was really disappointed by the hotel service.

a few pros and a lot of cons

Pros: The hotel is in a decent location- near great restaurants, a metro station. It's fairly modern and relatively clean. There was a nice terrace- although it doesn't really resemble the pictures online. Cons: Unfortunately, our room faced the Place de la Rebulique so day and night we would hear traffic, motorcycles, and sirens if we opened the balcony- if we didn't the room would overheat (the thermostat/fan function seemed to be little more than decoration). The staff were not very helpful, one always appeared to be on the phone when she was helping people at the desk. We also had issues with the hotel not following through on champagne being delivered to the room on arrival, luckily no one ended up being charged, but the only surprise when we got to the room was an item of discarded underclothing left in the back of one of the dresser drawers. Overall, not the kind of place to go for your honeymoon, fine for a business hotel if it isn't on your dime and you don't care that much about great customer service. Also, try to get a room not facing the street.

Has a way to go, but wil get there

Nice staff. Concierge was not there at designated times. And, not very helpful. But nice. One night coffee pot there, next ..gone. lost something else also. Tried to bill us for refrigerator items. Restaurant awful!!! Service, food and price. Thankfully, MacDonalds across st. Ceiling leaks in lobby area. Has potential to be very very good hotel.

Crown Plaza

Food abpove average at resturant and longe. However, breakfast left something to be desired, overpriced. Hot food rather bland and tasteless. Staff delightful especially felt welcome by the two Conceriege that served us. Nearness to Marias was a definite plus.

Paris in February

I did not realize how much the internet had become a part of my routine communications with family and friends. The hotel charged 7 euros an hour or 18 euros for twenty four hours of internet access. When trying to connect to the hotel's internet a prompt to call the front desk for an access code displayed. The process of receiving a code took about 15 minutes and was completely manual. The code received was for the wireless network and initially worked very well. Later in the evening the connection was spotty and seemed to drop randomly. I contacted the main desk for assistance and was informed there was no available wireless in the room and that the computer would have to be connected via the ethernet cable. When the code expired, the front desk had to be contacted for another. The next code received would only work if the computer was not connected to the ethernet cable. Very frustrating. For most of my travel experiences this one amenity is standard and included in the cost of the room. Here the added expense was extremely over priced. It seemed especially miserly when many other locations openly offered free service. For the cost of the room, this should have been afforded. A few calls from the states to the hotel never reached the room. The caller complained that when dialing the main hotel number no one answered at the desk. There was a charge for all local calls by the minute but no information regarding this cost was readily available in the room or listed on the website. Discovering the charge at check out was disappointing. The walk from the hotel to the main Paris attractions was more than a mile and with the weather changing constantly it was more efficient to use the metro. The location had a metro stop right in front that gave you access to the attractions and locations of interest. Easy access, understandable signs and instructions on how to get to your destinations made the metro very user friendly. There is a pastry shop just behind the hotel that served fabulous coffee and pastry every day. Business was brisk and the staff, very helpful. For 2.50 euros you could have a coffee and croissant. The room was clean and comfortable. The area around the hotel was bustling. There were several cafes to dine at near by. The weather in Paris in February was cold and damp. It rained and snowed while there. On warmer days, temperatures were in the high 30's fahrenheit and walking outside was brisk but with a good coat and scarf it was enjoyable.

A museum pass can be purchased at the airport when you arrive. It is priced by the days of use and gives you access to many of the Paris museums. Its most powerful feature was the bypassing of the lines to access the museums. Depending on how many of the area museums you are planning on visiting it is a cost saver as well. It provides unlimited access to all the museums listed on the pass.

Crowne Plaza Republique

The hotel was basically clean and in a good location, but I would not go back. We had to pay for internet use, and 3 Euros to make an outside call. Also breakfast was not included and the only breakfast served was 25 Euros per person. Staff was friendly and helpful.

clean,convenient but not 4 star

We spent only evenings and sleeping at our room. We had a Metro stop right on the corner and a small grocery store, MONOP, around the corner the other direction. We bought groceries and wine almost daily and had breakfast in the room, as well as wine and snacks later in the day. We headed straight to the Metro each morning and were gone all day. The hotel was clean, staff friendly but we had to ask for towels, coffee service items, body wash for the shower, etc EVERY day, which got annoying! It was unseasonably warm and the A/C was not running yet for the year so it was quite hot in our room. even with the window open. We were lucky to be on a quiet courtyard side of the hotel as many other rooms were on two street sides and guests reported those rooms as quite noisy. For a beautiful,4 star hotel, we were disappointed daily but the staff made things right promptly each time. The manager even offered us free cold drinks the night it was the warmest and free breakfast the next day.

Buy the Paris Pass (available on the Internet, you pick it up at the Hard Rock Cafe which is near the hotel). We got the 4 day pass but wished we'd gotten the 6 day. It includes entrance fees to most of the museums and almost all other attractions (not the Eiffel Tower, tho)and a Metro Pass the can be used endlessly. The Metro was really easy to use, clean, safe and saved alot of Euros!
