Incredible location, just fine everything else

We stayed at Le Compostelle for 5 nights. I would definitely go back, and I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends (and strangers!). The Good - Incredible location. A couple of blocks away from the 1 line (St. Paul stop), which is arguably the most helpful line to be on as a tourist. - A few blocks from sights (e.g., Notre Dame, Pompidou) - Great area during the day (e.g., boulangeries, stores, entertainment), and safe - Great area during the night (e.g., restaurants, bars, entertainment), and safe - Everything you could need (e.g., bed, private bathroom, front desk that is open and kind) - Internet for 10euros for your whole stay. It's not free, but it's quite affordable - An elevator if you want it - Price. We paid 120euros a night (for the middle of October). That doesn't sound cheap, exactly, but it WAS cheap compared to other options in the area - Our very large windows overlooked the street, and we could open the windows all the way. So, not a balcony exactly, but almost The Bad - The internet connection was VERY shoddy - The bathroom was a little cramped, and the shower had (a) no curtain, and (b) no hanging shower-head... so it was a fun little game to shower without getting water everywhere - Soap and shampoo were provided. But both seemed designed to pull moisture out of everything they touched.

Purchase the Paris Museum Pass. You think you won't recoup your money for this, but we learned it's more than money, it's TIME. Instead of waiting 2 hours to get into the Musee D'Orsay, you wait maybe 2 minutes. This adds up. Meaning you're buying yourself TIME on your vacation. Also, with the pass (which gives free access to something like 60 museums), you'll find yourself going into more museums because, hey, it's free and right here. We went to a lot of museums we loved, and wouldn't have gone to otherwise.

perfect location, minimum comfort

hotel Le Compostelle is located in Le Marais; which is a really good place to hang out. hotel is really small -also the rooms- but pretty clean. unfortunately quite noisy during night, but if you like to spend the night out, you wouldn't care :) really old staff and don't speak English as well.

Location great, the rest, not so much.

The hotel was well situated. However, the rooms were rather plain, the carpet, comforter, etc appeared old. Also, there is no AC in the rooms. Bathroom was awkward.

great location

Wonderful location walking to all sites in the Marais, all my favorite bars and restaurants here. Did museums and got very sick after eating somewhere across the Seine but the hotel room was good for trecovery and lots of sleep for two days. Very pleasant staff, thank goodness an elevator, and certainly not overpriced.

Great location, hotel is servicable

The location is super -- blocks from the Pompidou, Notre Dame, and the left bank, smack in the middle of a fun, hip neighborhood. My room faced the street, and was very noisy, even though it was on the 5th floor. Breakfast is not included and is not worth the additional cost. Better to go to a cafe. Internet was reliable in the lobby, but down for hours at a time in my room.

Excellent Location

I am a seasoned traveler...and understand that the rooms need not be huge...this was more than adequate and the location was amazing...the service (and I am a fluent French-speaker) was less than great...a disappointment as I have rarely seen service like this...I would return, however...

Hotel

It was a very pleasant experience...Not a lot of amenities but the staff was delightful, even reminding me before I went out one nite to turn my clock an hour ahead. But at this price, for this location....who cares if the room was small.

Great room for the price

This hotel was comfortable, safe, and clean and in an EXCELLENT location. The staff was very friendly and the breakfast offered for 6 Euro was nice. The price was extremely reasonable for the location of the hotel. I would definitely stay here again, although, since its in an area with nightlife, bring earplugs as it can be noisy.

Spartan, but who cares, it's Paris!

This place worked out perfectly for a day/night in Paris on my way to another destination in France. The up side: The staff is nice, the place is clean, all the necessities are there, and the location is fantastic. The Marais is my favorite neighborhood in Paris. The hotel is a short walk to the RER, the Metro, or the Centre George Pompidou. I could even walk to the Gare de Lyon. Breakfast is OK. This is a no-frills, no-amenities base of operations for exploring Paris, not a luxury hotel. The only real down side: the bed was hard and not all that comfortable. I was so jet-lagged I slept like a baby, but if I were staying a week, I might have preferred a cushier bed. And I had a hand shower, which worked fine but isn't what an American is used to. So all in all, this was just what I was looking for: a decent, inexpensive hotel in Paris. I'm not sure what the air conditioning situation is and it's a seven-story building so I would look into this if I were an A/C-spoiled American staying during the summer.

The Centre George Pompidou is worthwhile for the art, the views and photo opportunities, and also for the shopping.
