Bad area, no spa

Do not opt for a massage, the standard poor. 80 euros was the going rate for a 1hour massage. The masseuse was appalling. Hotel is located close to a street where prostitutes are day and night. Poor area to have a four star hotel. Lack of dining choices. Room and hotel interrior were good. Considering Athens is not that big, any other hotel in any location would be a better choice.

Not Recommended

They gave us a smoking room although we had booked a non-smoking then gave us a twin bed room. The carpet was very dirty and the central heating could not be controlled so we had to open the window that had no screen and we had a bad mosquito problem. They tried to double charge use for a meal we had paid for already and the woman at the front desk all had unprofessional attitudes. I would not recommend this hotel as a 4 star but a 3 star. Also the breakfast was not included although the description on this site said it was.

Terrible Experience

This is a 3 star hotel at best. Room was a smoking room although we specifically asked for a non-smoking room. They gave us a two twin bed room instead. Very dirty carpet, the window had no screen so we had tons of mosquitos and we could not turn off the central heating that got uncomfortably hot throughout the night. The women at the front desk always had attitude and they charged us twice for one meal although we had paid for it at the time with cash. Overall very bad experience and will never use this hotel again.

Won't be back!

First off, they have two twin beds pushed together to make one bed. You would think with two adults checking in, they would provide a room with one queen size bed. to make matters worth, the twin beds were not secured, so they woud separate when we got in them. There was no clock, the room was very small, and they did not provide any hand towels. The primary reason I chose this hotel is because it was located close to where my fiance lived. Next time I go to Athens, I will spend more money to get a quality hotel

recent vacation

The hotel was fine and the staff was very nice. The rooftop pool area was particularly enjoyable. Wireless service was odd, free in some places on the property but not in your room and the location of the hotel is not in a great area unfortunately. The best thing about the location was its proximity to the subway but it was not an area where I felt comfortable walking after dark.

buying the week long subway pass was the best thing we did. Easy to use and saved a lot of time and trouble when going to visit different areas of the city.

Average to good hotel in a complex neighbourhood

Easy access from the airport by metro, three blocks from metro station. Don't walk the area after sunset with your luggage. Plenty of junkies and pick pockets. Some anti-riot police during the day. Check in OK. Room internet at extra charge. Room OK but small, bathroom nice and good size, towels just so so. For a change (I think this is becoming a standard in many hotels) at check out they wanted to charge me for mini bar that I never even open. Breakfast was good and service excellent at the restaurant. Hotel is walking distance to many attractions including the Acropolis, Parliament, Ancient Olympic Stadium and so on.

excellent, great hotel but bad location

My mom and I stayed at Melia Athens for 10 days. Melia Athens is an excellent hotel, with really friendly staff. It was very clean, the beds were very comfortable, and the greatest feature was the jacuzzi bath and shower. Unfortunatelly, the location was not the best, actually downright scary, as it was very close to Omonia square, which looked unsafe, dirty, with unsavoury people hanging around. There were all kinds of ugly grafitti on the walls all over that area, and it looked very scary. There were loud and violent demonstrations at night due to the economic collapse of the country, and people were throwing rocks and breaking windows. The hotel in order to protect its windows looked like a fortress at night, with the entrance all blocked off. Lots of police and army uniform officers in riot gear were present and standing guard front of the hotel. I never experienced anything like that,I felt like a civil war or revolution can break out anytime. I really enjoy going out at night, but in Athens in that area it was unwise to walk around after dark. I have travelled quite extensively all over Europe and I never felt so unsafe in any other European city. I realize this is not the hotel's fault, and I understand that citizens have the right to express their frustration and anger towards Greece's terrible socio-economic situation. But it made our stay less enjoyable, as we were concerned for our own safety. We visited the Acropolis, went to the Plaka area, walked around a lot, and the weather was wonderful, sunny and warm. I would really recommend this hotel, but it would be much better if it was in a different area of the city.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

The Archeological museum is just a 10 minute walk from the hotel, and it is a must see! I enjoyed it immensely, and loved the sculpture and the egyptian exhibition part of it. Sundays are free to get in, and for student's any day is 3 euro, but you need to bring your student card. (otherwise it is 7 euro). The best sightseeing bus company is Athens City tour, cost 15 euros, but you can use your ticket for 2 or even 3 days. One of its stops is on Omonia Square, 2 minutes walk from the hotel. The shops close to Omonia square are reasonably priced, and at the Honda center, they have a big department store as well. Very close to the hotel, there is a supermarket, food is cheap there. They have really tasty orange juice and oranges for very little. There is a clothing store as well, called pin up with fashionable women's clothing, reasonably priced. An other great store is called the shoe bank 1 minute walk from the hotel, you can buy 10 euros boots and shoes there.
