Great location
The hotel is very well positioned and is a very reasonably priced alternative to the big chain hotels that are expensive in the central area. Rooms are clean and functional, especially if you are looking for a base. There's nothing fancy about the rooms, but you get free wifi and free breakfast (I guess if you take that rate) and there are some amenities in the room.

Well-situated and priced, slightly down at heel
No complaints and good value. Well-situated near the Elizabeth Bridge over the Danube. But it's rather ' faded glory' now and could do with refurbishment.

Good value for the money
The hotel was located in a great location on the Danube, easily accessible to both the Buda and Pest sides of the city. Also minutes away are the Gellert baths and a shopping district full of street vendors and restaurants. Overall the hotel experience was well worth the price, considering that a number of much more highly priced hotels are located just blocks away.

Shopping tip:
Not Applicable
Always try bargaining with street vendors to try to reduce the original asking price - if it doesn't work, the vendor down the block will probably have the same products for a better deal.

Great location! Great value!
The hotel is a converted apartment building in the heart of Budapest by splitting stories into two. This resulted in half-size windows, but with great view of the Castle Hill, the Erzsébet bridge and the university church. Room was very nice, clean and surprisingly quiet. Neighbours were noisy and rowdy which dampened enthusiasm. Staff friendly and helpful. Great value for the price!

Basic, Clean Room in a Good Location
For the location and price, I can't complain about Matyas. We had a double twin room and the beds were tiny with one pillow each, TV was tiny and only had one English channel (CNN) and shower was pretty small - but hey, it's Europe. No amenities but the adjacent restaurant (where breakfast is served) is one of the city's more notable ones. Probably not worth it to pay for the breakfast though, unless you plan on gorging yourself and skipping lunch. Hotel is super close to the Elizabeth bridge and Danube promenade and walking distance to most attractions (if you like to walk).

Just the right location
This hotel is your basic hotel, perhaps closer to a 2-star in amenities but the location was in the heart of the city. You could walk to everything. Everything else in that area is super expensive so we considered this a pretty good deal. It was clean and the staff friendly. I'd stay there again.

Great Location, Great Price.
If you are looking for a good hotel with a great location for a great price in Budapest this is the hotel. My room had a view of Castle Hill. So who cares if the hotel is part of a residential complex?!?!! The strange layout adds to it's appeal. Just be careful of the restaurants in the area turning your $20 food bill into $120 by adding overpriced wins and $7 rice to your table without showing you the prices first.

Short walk from hotel
Be careful of Pertu Cafe Bar around the corner on Vaci Utca. After adding $100 of items to the bill without my approval and then the waiter showing up with 4 HUGE Hungarian thugs to steal my money, there was no option but to pay.

This hotel is ina good area near
This hotel is ina good area near the Elizabeth bridge. The entrance is through an apartment doorwaz that is not kept locked. The reception is off to the left on entrz, no visibility of staff from entrance. The rooms are through a securitz door to the right. This may be an issue for single travellers as it is quite isolated and dim. The breakfast is served in the "dungeon" restaurant, all vaultd ceilings and medieval frescoes. It is a good breakfast. Only drawback to this hotel is the entrance and location of reception.
