This was truly a 5-star experience, but what made it even better was that after the first day, the entire staff knew everybody's name, and the floor they were staying on. So we were greeted by name, from the front desk personnel to the restaurant staff. This, plus all the service expected at a 5-star hotel!

Good Experience
This hotel has a good location within New Delhi and is a favourite with tourists who can afford the luxury that this hotel offers. I stay there for a week and I was very happy with the facilities and services. The room was good and staff was courteous. In one sentence you can say better than expectation. A Letdown [...]
[...] I suspect if I was "a foreigner" and/or stuffed into a high-profile power tuxedo, they would have treated me much better. Sure their supervisors apologized profusely later when I brought this to their notice. At least that. Thanks for small mercies. But did not abate my sense of hurt.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
Instead of eating Indian food shamelessly altered to cater to unknowing [*], take a Taxi to outer circle of M block in Connaught Place and try the new Haldiram's restaurant for good authentic Indian food (not too spicy, but still good). Do not eat in the hotel restaurants. For example the Taj lunch buffet is a steep Rs 1500 (over $35) for food that by no stretch of imagination is Indian...in case that's what you wanted. And it is not Continental too, trust me. They just say it is.
