good base for exploring Dublin

Arrived at 2pm, room was ready, nice polite and friendly staff. Only 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive from Luas park and ride facility. 4.50 Euro return to city centre. Room was a good size with tea making facilties, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, extra pillows and a safe. Had a great weekend and checked out Sunday 12pm. Would use it again, very easy to get to, just off the M50.

Reasonably Priced and Comfortable

I spent a week here with my son for a business event and it was an overall very pleasant experience. The staff are lovely; every single person we had contact with was helpful and friendly. The location is right on a major highway. There's a 20 minute walk on a footpath along the highway to get to the train into Dublin which takes another 30 minutes. Because we were attending an event in this hotel we didn't travel into Dublin every day but it does take some time and planning to do so. The hotel is reasonably priced because of it's location so if you mean to be in Dublin daily, this may not be the best choice for you. We did not have a car as we were traveling from abroad but they do have a parking garage if you do. There is a restaurant nearby but otherwise there is nothing much to walk to or do. Our overall experience was very positive.

Poor service

Very unhappy with our stay at this hotel. During our stay at this hotel we were woken up twice during the night with people running though the corridors shouting. Also when we had an issue with our booking and tried to discuss with the lady at the service desk she was in no way interested in trying to find a solution to the problem. Will not be staying there again.

Definitely not a 4-star

The staff was uninformative from the start. We felt very unwelcome during our stay. When we checked in we were simply handed our room keys. We never received an explanation of the amenities nor was there one in the room. I still don't know how to get into the fitness room. Once we found the parking garage and made our way to the room, we couldn't get the electricity to work. The way electricity works in some Irish hotels is very different from American hotels and it was not explained to us (whereas staff at other hotels during our trip did so at the front desk). We had to call down to the front desk and wait in the freezing cold room after a very long international travel day for a staff member to come and show us how to work the electricity. Then he made fun of us while he did so. This made the very beginning of our stay uncomfortable. Our room was in the very corner of the hotel on the first floor. It was sparsely decorated and the view we received was of a parking lot and a fence. This may be due to the fact that the hotel ignored our request for a non-smoking room and originally assigned us to a smoking room. They did switch us to a non-smoking room when we checked in, but we suspect we were given a left over room as a result. The first night there we asked them for advice about what to eat as it was late and we were told the hotel restaurant was no longer serving food. We were sent to "Joel's", a restaurant that is next door to the hotel. We walked over there and found it closed. We got in our rental car and drove around looking for dinner and eventually bought some sandwich fixings in a gas station. This was our first dinner in Ireland. If we had known what time the hotel restaurant closed, we would have eaten earlier or had time to make other arrangements. The next day, we found out that the hotel was supposed to serve sandwiches 24 hours a day. The parking garage (car park) is underneath the hotel. We were told the entrance was closed at 11. When we double checked to see how we could get in after 11, we were told it was open 24 hours. One night, we came back late from the south of Ireland and had to back out of the garage because the gate was indeed closed. We went to the front desk and asked them how to get into the garage and were told to go in through the exit but “be careful for exiting cars.” Are you kidding me? This hotel is more geared toward the banquets and meetings that are held there than its guests. It is definitely not tourist friendly. The location is not appealing, unless you enjoy looking at a gas station, an industrial looking restaurant building and a highway. The shuttle they have to the Luas (train around downtown) is only available for 1.5 hours every day, from 7:30 – 9:00 am. When we asked where the LUAS station was, we were not even told there was a parking lot by it and so we wasted sightseeing time the first day by walking to it. The ATM they say they have as an amenity is actually at the nearby gas station, we never received any help with our luggage, etc. We stayed at three other hotels/B&Bs during our trip in Ireland. Each of which provided much better service and a more appealing ambiance. Don't expect the Louis Fitzgerald to have many of the amenities they advertise. Do yourself a favor and stay somewhere else.

Restaurant

I ate in the hotel bar the food was the worst I have ever tasted. The presentation of the food was a disgrace. The staff member got my order wrong. I ordered a non smoking room and there was a smell of stale smoke in the room. I would not stay there again.

Bed shortage

Ok so after arriving and spending 35 minutes to get checked into our room, which turned out to be a double instead of a twin, we were ok with this as they offered a camp bed. Camp bed never turned up, apart from that there was nowhere in the room to put one anyway because the room was tiny. Bar staff were very nice, pitty they allowed kids in the bar till well after nine, actually closer to midnight (these kids were not residents, I know this because i spoke to one of their fathers). I really dont know how this hotel has 4 stars, a 3 star at a push. To be honest this hotel is very like some of the budget hotels around the area.

The Louis Fitzgerald, great value

We found the Louis Fitzgerald to be great value for money. The hotel is very relaxed and the staff are very welcoming and friendly. The rooms are clean which is all you need when traveling. The evening meals in the restaurant are lovely and the portions are a good size. The location of the hotel was great for our purposes. The only thing I will say is that the breakfasts are a bit of let down for what you pay. We were down to breakfast at 7.45 and it was cold. My wife is a coeliac and could only have rashers and tomato, which were cold. There was also no fridge in the room we were in. Despite this we were happy with the hotel.
