the b Ikebukuro
Relatively new hotel. Price is very competitive considering Ikebukuro is one of the busiest areas in Tokyo. Rooms are very small; but immaculate. Complementary Internet service, stylish decor and secure.

Tons of dining option in the area. Be sure to look up above street level as business in Japan are staggered vertically and you might miss a great spot if you're only looking at the storefronts.

On the 9th floor during earthquake
Hotel location is great, near JR and subway station. They made a mistake assigning the room at check-in but corrected immediately after we called. Modern shower head and nozzles provide good water pressure to massage after a tire day of walking. Free coffee at the lobby was good. Breakfast was decent. We were in our room on the 9th floor when the big earthquake occurred. The hotel staff responded to the emergency adequately. There was drywall dust came down during the quake on many floors. It was amazing how fast the hotel staff cleaned up the earthquake mess, vacuumed and mopped up every floor. We will stay there again next time we visit Tokyo.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Found both Japanese and western style food in walking distance. Mister Donut is a couple of blocks away; my husband thinks coffee and donuts there taste better than the Mister Donut in the United State.

The air conditioner isn't powerful
The air conditioner isn't powerful enough so it was quite warm in our room during summer in Japan. Overall the hotel was upto our expectations and will recommend to others.

Convenient, comfortable
The b ikebukuro hotel is clean and comfortable, just a short walk from Ikebukuro Station. The 'superior single' room was a little smaller than I expected, but since I was only there to sleep this was not a problem for me. (If you have a large suitcase, or many bags, you may have trouble making room for them.) The free wired internet was very handy, but no wi-fi is available. Breakfast is both Japanese and Western style so everyone should be able to find something they like. There are a lot of restaurants in the immediate area and the Sunshine City/Sunshine 60 complex is just a short walk away. You could easily spend a whole night just walking around and taking in the sights and sounds of the area. The huge department store Seibu is next to the train station and the station itself contains many shops and restaurants. The morning staff spoke decent English, but the night staff was more difficult to communicate with. (I found that writing things down helped quite a lot, just be patient!) All the staff that I dealt with were very polite and helpful. Overall I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting Tokyo.

Look for Kamakura for ramen and Kaburaya for yakitori (ask for the English menu if it isn't offered to you).

Great Hotel
The hotel staff was friendly although there was a bit of a language barrier however they tried hard to help with any questions. The rooms were nice and comfortable, although a bit small and having 3 people in the room didnt help. The location is very close to Ikebukuro station and the Yamanote JR line which made getting around very very easy.

B- Ikebukuro
Spent 3 nights 4 days here. The hotel was nice and clean. They served a nice breakfast buffet with what looked to be a nice restaurant for lunch or dinner although I only saw there at breakfast as I was busy during the days. Location was excellent being right next to the Subway/JR lines at Ikebukuro Station. The area itself had a little bit of shopping and a few restaurants and pubs for those looking for a quieter evening closer to the hotel. From there I could access any where I need to go in Tokyo quite easily including Disney Land, Saitama Arena and several of the busier night life and shopping areas of the city.

Money-saving tip:
Not Applicable
The subway can be confusing so I highly recomend printing off the routes with google maps. I used them to get to and from several places in the city and found them to be very accurate and easy to follow. The other tip I have is when using the subway pay only the minimal amount even if you know you will be travelling further. Every station has a place to adjust your fare and this can be done there. this way you only pay what you need to pay as the subway gets quite expensive. That or you could by rail passes which I neglected to do.

Great hotel for budget-minded
Small rooms but they have all the essentials. Private bath, fridge, good quality TV but only a few channels. Free internet in rooms (No wireless but hotel supplies internet cable).Staff has limited English but they are very friendly and helpful and will do their best to answer your questions. 3-min walk to Ikebukuro station, which connects to all parts of Tokyo. Not just for business. singles and couples, too.
