A honeymoon is a month
Everything we wanted
We really had a great experience. The service was great and everyone was very friendly. The room was just right with good a/c. The beach was really nice which was good because basically all we did was relax there. It was very nice to to have any kids running around. We very much enjoyed the wine and tequila tastings they have once a week. We did go on the Mayan Extreme excursion with zip lining, rappelling and snorkeling. It was well worth the money. The shows at night weren't that impressive, but that isn't the reason we went so it was fine. Our favorite part may have actually been the food. We didn't expect much going down there and we were just blown away. The breakfast buffet was great. The French inspired restaurant and Japanese steakhouse were our favorite dinner options. The steaks at all of the restaurants we tried were very good. The resort also has a beach BBQ for lunch that has great grilled meats and a tasty seafood gumbo type dish. A+ on all of it.

Romantic relaxing week at SMB
My wife and I traveled from Dulles Airport in Virginia to Mexico's Secrets Maroma Beach (SMB) Resort August 1st returning August 8th. Our overall experience was excellent. We're in our mid 40's and have traveled to other all inclusive resorts in Mexico and in the Caribbean. We have no affiliation with travel companies, Mexico, or the resort. Occupancy:While there, the paper reported 60%+ occupancy along the Myan Reviera. I'd guess SMB was around 50%. It certainly didn't feel overcrowded. There was a mix of people there. Certainly lots of 20 something honeymooners, but also older couples. Few families, for the most part couples. Room:We had a second floor room in the middle of the resort, building 24. This worked well. Nice room, big shower, big jetted tub. Comfortable bed. Frosted glass door to the toilet may bother some who like a bit more privacy. Our concierge, [...], was very friendly as she showed us the room. There is a "do not disturb" light outside the room. It's controlled by a switch near the front door. The staff has been trained to not knock or enter when it is on. If you leave it on by mistake, you will not get your room cleaned. We accidently left the room door open an inch one night. That kills the AC. It also resulted in an 8:30 AM call to make sure we were OK since hotel security had noticed it was ajar. Rooms have a large TV with access to some US stations. There's also Cinemax, HBO, and the Playboy channel. All of those are the Mexican versions so there is a mixture of Spanish and English spoken movies. Shows:We went to all of the evening shows put on by the resort. The entertainment team certainly puts in the effort. We really liked the fire and drums show on Friday night. Secrets Idol was far better than I thought it would be. The live band supporting that effort did an outstanding job of helping the guest amateur singers. The duet on the beach one night was also great. The hypnotist was embarrassingly bad. He only got 1 of 8 into a trance and then pretty much crumbled from there. The juggler comedian wasn't too funny, but sure could juggle. The couples show was light enjoyable entertainment. There was a dance night that had some very good dance numbers by the entertainment staff. They also show movies each night but we didn't partake in those. Vendor night:On two nights when we were there they had a dozen or more vendors lined up along the main walkway. Prices seem to be negotiable. Some hats, some art work, some pottery, some jewelry. Staff:Always a friendly greeting. Very nice people who are constantly on the go. I really felt they wanted to make sure we had a good time. I'm reasonably sure that the entertainment staff don't sleep. They seem to be always around. On the positive side if you just want to relax and not participate in beach or pool activities they leave you alone. Restaurants:I don't think we ever had a bad meal. Different themed restaurants made it interesting and we hit them all. The wait staff took very good care of us each time. The food was tasty and very well presented. I wore leather sandals, long pants, and knit shirts to the casual elegance restaurants. Lots of the women wore dresses to the nicer dinners. Breakfast was buffet style with a broad selection. They automatically toss salt into your eggs so be sure to tell them not to if that's not your preference.Beach:Very nice. Soft sand. Lots of shade offered by palapas. You can walk in each direction for a good distance. No need for beach shoes, soft sand most of the way. Once you leave areas in front of resorts you'll see washed up beach litter. The water directly in front of SMB was roped off to keep boats out. It was completely free of rocks. There were some good size fish swimming about, but they didn't nip at us. Beach drink service was very good. I didn't realize until the last day that the waiters had a menu of specialty drinks. Probably a half dozen waiters always shuttling drinks to lounge chairs. We spent almost ...

AWFUL!!! Don't get married here
I had to wait 4 hours to get into my room. Upon arriving in my room they brought the wrong luggage to our room, and what I paid for, which was a partial ocean view.. wasn't even what we got. Also, when we entered the room they were doing maintenance. I went for a friends wedding, they lost her veil, put a hole in it, and when we went to get our hair and make up done, they thought I was the bride and gave me the Bridal suite to get my hair done in. Although it was a great time with friends… def not a place I trust going to again!

Can't ask for a better resort.
Staying in this hotel was comparable to a fantasy. The resort was beautiful, the rooms were just like the pictures, and we did not run across any unplesant staff. I recommend the swim out suite to anyone, it added the tip to our vacation. All of the restaurant were very upscale. Overall a GREAT resort.

Pleasantly Surprised Guest
Wonderful Vacation Spot!
My husband and I took this trip with his two brothers and their wives. I wasn't sure what to expect but this trip went above and beyond my wildest expectations. We were treated to a rich and famous lifestyle the moment we arrived. Our rooms were breathtaking and the swim out pool room was well worth the extra cost. The entire staff made sure everything was perfect for us during our entire stay. I misplaced one of my bags at one point and they quickly found it for me in the lost and found. Not one item was missing either. I spent one moring at the spa and although it was very relaxing and peaceful I won't be getting a manicure or pedicure while at a beach again. The nail polish started chipping the same day from the sand. The food was mouthwatering and delicious at every single meal. Room service was prompt and hot as well. We are already planning our return trip to the exact location next summer!

Everything was spectacular!! The service was unbelievable. 24 hour room service took 10-15 minutes to arrive. The rooms are sooooo romantic and upscale. The food at every restaurant and room service was to die for!! The beach was clear, turquoise blue with white sugary sand. The staff is over the top friendly and eager to wait on you! Great Resort!! Shame on Orbitz
Secrets Maroma is a great, great all-inclusive resort with a spectacular view of the Mexican Caribbean, awesome facilities and super friendly and helpful staff. It is definitely a 5-Star resort with the best beach in the entire region. I highly recommend upgrading to the swim-out rooms. It's a major plus! You have your own personal pool. The Preferred Club gives you access to a lounge area with computer access, concierge and full bar (plus it's super cold in there). The bad has nothing to do with the resort at all but instead with Orbitz, American Airlines and Miami-Dade International Airport. Please avoid any stops in Miami-Dade. That airport is just the worst. We waited an hour on the plane waiting to dock and consequently missed our connecting flight to Cancun. American Airlines refused to make any changes to our flight and so we had to spend a night in Miami (missing a day at Secrets Maroma). The following day we arrived to Secrets Maroma and Orbitz didn't notify them that we were going to be there even though we notified Orbitz to do so because of our flight issue. We were sent to Secrets Capri for the day. The next day we returned to Secrets Maroma. After the enjoyable and relaxing stay at Secrets Maroma we sadly left to the airport where American Airlines then told us that our flight was changed to the following day. We received no notification whatsoever. It just was a mess. After much arguing we finally were allowed to catch another flight to LAX where American Airlines then proceeded to lose my luggage. Somehow my luggage was sent from Miami to Atlanta to Fort Worth. How does this even happen? We stayed a night in LA since I couldn't fathom trusting American Airlines with delivering a suitcase to my home. AA told us the luggage would be there at 9 am but it didn't get there until noon. The moral of the story is....Secrets Maroma is great...American Airlines and Miami-Dade are horrible....Orbitz responsibility in making sure that vacation goes well without a hitch is lacking
