chic haven in a bustling city
Superior staff, wonderful two-story rooms (beds in loft), very clean, very quiet, in a leafy part of town about a 20 minute walk to city center. Overall, a great value. The only drawback is that the hotel is far removed from any other bar, restaurant or breakfast, so you may end up eating and drinking on the premises--the quality of the food and drink is good, but the prices are very high.

Great place
Beautiful hotel, impeccably courteous and professional staff, outstanding room. Ya, it's not in the heart of town, but is convenient to trams or the front desk can get you a cab in about 1 minute (~11 euro to centraal station) Fantastic bed, great shower, decent views of the canal. All in all a very good hotel, it's only drawbacks being the quality of service in the bar (really slow) and the service charge for internet.

Arena Hotel 8-2011
Overall I wasn't disappointed at all. My first room I was a little unhappy due to my height and this particular room, though it was very quaint and comfortable it was tough, but after voicing my minor complaint they switched up my room and I actually ended up with an upgrade right away. The AM breakfast is very tasty and has a good variety of foods to appease most palettes, though I would like to add that it is charged to your room, though I don't think the pricing is posted or made clear unless asked, just fair warning, but I felt it was of value. The club was also entertaining, just make sure to talk to the hosts during the day to get on the list. Buy a tram pass from the host and don't forget to tap on and off the tram ;-)

Beautiful hotel
The hotel was beautiful. Our room was spacious, comfortable and stylishly decorated. We only stayed one night at this hotel but wish we would have stayed our entire trip. (we also stayed at some discount hotels, though the price on this one was a bit higher it seemed worth it). One complaint, breakfast for 18 euros seemed very over priced.

Great Hotel
Hotel Arena was a beautiful hotel, newly expanded and remodeled with beautiful, modern decor and rooms. The staff were very friendly and spoke great English; they were happy to give advice about getting around and where to eat etc. The only downside was that the hotel was about a 30 minute walk from the city center, but this should not be a discouraging factor unless you were really hoping to walk because the Amsterdam trams, metro, and rental bikes are easily accessible.

Great, with small reservations
By Amsterdam standards this hotel is very good value at the rate we got with e-Bookers. Our basic room had an atrium style "upstairs", giving far more space than is the norm in the city. It is very stylish, but this leads to a couple of reservations that may affect some people. Firstly, beyond a wardrobe with no shelves or drawers there is nowhere to store anything, so you live out of your suitcase or back pack. Secondly, the bathroom is a glass cube within the room, not all of which is opaque, so not for the shy! The shower has nowhere to put down soap or shampoo. Otherwise I would have scored it 5. If you can live with those points then the place really is a bargain. Location wise it's a bit far out if you don't know Amsterdam and aren't happy to use the trams (3 pass within 400 metres). Factor in a 1-day travel card and it's still much cheaper than anything equivalent in the centre. The people were very good. We had a problem with our shower and it was fixed immediately with apologies and no fuss. We didn't try the restaurant, but the bar was excellent. We'll definitely stay here again next time we're in Amsterdam if the prices don't go up too much!

Short walk from hotel
There are some really good and reasonably cheap ethnic restaurants in Albert Cuypstraat just beyond the market area; the Kurdish one may not look much from outside but the food is great.

Four wonderful days in Amsterdam
Very welcoming, friendly staff. Stunning room. Climbing a fairly steep staircase to our bed was a bit daunting, but once we were up there it was extremely comfortable. Had to go two stops on the Metro to begin serious sightseeing but trains were brilliant and frequent. Would definitely return to Amsterdam and the Arena Hotel.

Visiting Amsterdam to see an old friend . . .
The location is good and easy access to transport. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The restaurant was pleasing, a must is the Lady's steak - yum yum. An amazing city to visit and walk along the canals which are in abundance. We visited Anne Frank house and museum, the Foam art exhibition and the Heineken Experience. The canal cruise from the Central Station was brilliant. A special treat was a gift from the Coster Diamond Centre from my lovely husband. We will return to see lovely Diana whom I love x Negative : the chicken satay and curry. Also we had to climb the steps to our bedroom on our hands and knees 1- we are both nearly 60yrs and would have preferred a different room. We will use the hotel again :0)

Rather good, not fantastic
The one is accessible by foot from the central station. Located in quiet place (it is especially valid for noisy and crowded Amsterdam). Two-level apartments look fine. They (as well as another interior) keep imprints of age and weariness, though not too dramatic. So I qualified the hotel as "rather good". Please note that breakfast is not included, so you have to pay additional e10 per person daily. The wotst thing was they took e100 deposit from my card. They promice to transfer this deposit back to my account in approx. 5 working days. It's quite new experience #not too pleasant# for I never have had this problem before. So I'm not sure I'll recommend, I simply give my friends my impression, let they decide

Long walk from hotel
I like to go around by foot, to have short stays in caffees and small quite restaurants and go and go again. Mostly I'm a business traveller so basically my trips are ordered and paid by the company.

Wow! First Class, Still Undiscovered
Amsterdam is one wild place. Stop in a coffee house and you'll see what I mean.... Don't do the canal tour on and off cruise offered by Gray Lines. It's a rip. Use the street cars. Sweet. The location of the hotel is not in the city center, but the transit system makes it not a big deal. Cabs are very inexpensive, too. The hotel is brand spanking new. Everything from sheets to floors are clean and fresh. The beds are more comfortable than any I have slept in around the world, or even at home for that matter! In May of 2009, the hotel was underpriced by at least 25%. If you can get a room under $140 euros per night, it is a screaming bargain.
