A backpackers hostel. NOT A HOTEL.
The location was great. It was located in downtown Taupo in the center of town and one block away from the lake front. It was surrounded by restarauts and bars. The room is just a basic hostel room with just the basics. I was surprised that this came up for the selection of hotels in the area when it is CLEARLY NOT A HOTEL. If you are looking for a peaceful experience in Taupo, this is not the place for you. On Friday and Saturday nights, there are two live bands at the bars that start after 10PM and don't stop until after 2 to 3 AM. This caused multiple sleepless nights. The staff also contact residents through a loudspeaker system on anything from stop all the drunken noise in the hallways to broadcasting about deals at the bar downstairs until 10PM. This loudspeaker system made the two bands out on the street seem quiet. Overall, this was a poor choice for a relaxing vacation stay. I was fooled by the good location and the price. Next time I visit this city, I would get a real hotel farther from downtown even though it is more expensive.

First class Hostel- ensuite double
First class Hostel- ensuite double room. Watch out for the Disco at Finn McCahul Irish Pub over the street, great food, but very noisy til 3am.
