Dining

Beyer'en Bar & Restaurant
Bergen has always been Norway's gateway to the world, it was here that the first spices came to Norway as well as the first liquor. The town was and still is a market town for local farmers. Since the town has a natural harbour there has always been a strong fishing industry here and the wealth of the town can be traced back to when 'klippfisk' and 'trrfisk' where traded here from the north of Norway, and sold all over the world. Here at Beyer'en we use local produce with influence and spices from the continent. We have also taken a couple of traditional dishes to give you an experience of a genuine Bergen kitchen.

First Marin Bergen

Old building hotels I've been in are much nicer. Room was clean, hallway was not. Bathroon was redone, bedroom was not. Older furniture and chairs. Staff was not helpful, although their English was good. They told us a cab to airport would cost 350, it was 485 with a company they called and reserved for us. They told us breakfast was 7am; when we got our cab at 6:50, there were 30 people eating. This was NOT a four star hotel, which I guess is why it was less expensive than other 4 stars. I picked it due to good location and stars. We would not stay there again and we would not reccomend to a friend. Fortunately, we were only booked for one night.

Good value. Pleasant stay.

Very good location e.g. close to waterfront, actiivities, "Old" Bergen, tourist information center, restaurants, etc. Hotel staff very cheerful, happy and helpful. Good value. Recommend for three star quality.

Nice hotel in a great city

This is a nicely appointed hotel with a central location convenient to shopping, museums, restaurants and the harbor. We didn't have to use a cab or bus to get anywhere other than to and from the airport. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The bathroom has a heated floor that the guest controls. The minibar is expensive, but aren't they all? The staff is exceptionally pleasant and helpful, like most of the Norwegians we encountered. Wifi is free but requires a new activation code every 24 hours. The lack of a business centre is my one complaint, though. When we went to print our boarding passes the night before departure, we had to pay a fee of 30 kr per minute at a desktop computer in the lobby. As it turns out, most airlines that serve Bergen have self service check in kiosks at the airport that work well and provide boarding passes. But on crowded flights, seat selection at the airport may be limited. So, access to a computer and printer at the hotel would have been nice. The nightlife in Bergen is active and we found that late night revelry on the street outside of our room to be quite loud at 2 am. This isn't the hotel's fault but I suspect that rooms on the harbor side of the hotel are a bit quieter.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Take the Flybussen to and from the airport, not a taxi. The cab ride costs 330 kr (about $50) each way. By contrast, the Flybussen which runs every 15 minutes most of the day takes only a few more minutes but costs 90 kr (about $15) each way. And the Flybussen has two stops in Bergen's city centre that are within easy walking distance of the First Hotel Marin.

Great location

Wonderful staff, ideal location - walk to almost very major sight sight or activity. Info center just a couple blocks away. Tram/gondola to mountain top down the street. Many excellent restaurants in neighborhood. Airport shuttle bus close by. Breakfasts were very satisfying - included in our package. Main problem we had was extreme noise from teen club located across street from our street window/room. Avoid street facing rooms. Lost sleep on two nights as hotel could/would not change our room.

No free parking, and lousy information

No free parking, and lousy information from the staff about it. Resulted in a ticket, which they were quick to deny any responsibility or information waiver about. Even though hotel amenities says parking.

not realiable

I had requested a late check-in, we got there at 9:40pm they didn't have a room for us, they sent us to a Radisson Blu, the bathroom smell like a sewer and it was very noisy,it was too late to move again,we had to wake up at 6:45am for a day trip.I didn't sleep at all. The first Marin staff were nice trying to accomodate us,they gave us an up grade to a suite which was very nice with a beautiful view.
