16th Century Palace In the historic quarter of the sizeable town of vila, this Parador is installed within the former "Piedras Albas" Palace, backing onto the impressive city walls. In keeping with its surroundings, the hotel's interior has a warm and intimate feel creating a very refreshing atmosphere, enriching your time spent there. Its beautiful decorative features include granite and adobe floors, bright colors and spacious rooms, some with four poster beds. These features all combine to create a light feel to the rooms. The Parador also features a garden containing archaeological remains, a magnificent glass-roofed courtyard, partitionable function rooms and a cafeteria. The hotel's restaurant provides a beautiful view over the gardens and the city walls. Here you can sample the 'pucheretes teresianos' (vegetable and pork stew), roast suckling pig, veal chops, Judas de El Barco (local bean dish) and the excellent yemas de la Santa (delicious dessert made from egg yolks).

Parador de Avila Rooms

Stay in the wall of a 16th Century City

This upscale Parador has it all. Great rooms with great views, a quiet interior park space and wonderful restaurant. There is nothing like living in the WALL of the CITY for a very unique experience. The staff went out of their way to make us feel right at home. Remember, a good command of Spanish is a big help. Avila is the home of El Tostado. You can visit the cathedral here and see the Romanesque start with the Gothic finish. The town square is a delight in the evenings. Why stay in Avila? It is equidistant to Segovia, Toledo, Salamonca and only about 90 miles from Madrid. It's a way to be only an hour or so away from the 3 cities and make day trips. Avoid the tourist crowds and bus tour groups by staying in Avila. We stayed in Madrid for all that city has to offer.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

Just head to the city square in the evenings. The entire town comes out to dine and play.
