Location!, be careful what you ask for.

Location, Location, Location! The location is right in the center of Las Ramblas, if this is what you are looking for; and I thought that was what I wanted. We stayed here four nights. It is an easy walk from the town ceter. Take the blue bus from El Prat Airport to the town center (less than 5 Euros) ask directions at the tourist information center, short walk to hotel (every one rolls their luggage through the streets). The hotel is very old and undergoing remodeling. The rooms are spartan but clean (no bugs). No vending machines or ice machines. Staff are friendly and most speak English. I do not have any complaints about the hotel. You get what you pay for! Now for the Location. There are people running up and down Las Ramblas street all night, and I mean until about 05:30 AM. They are yelling, screaming, singing, laughing, playing drums and horns, firecrackers, sirens and the trash trucks start picking up at about 01:00 AM. And this is not just on weekends or holidays, but everynight, and all night! The noise echoes down the side streets like giant canyons. It is actually quieter during he day. This is no fault of this hotel it is just the nature of this street. This is a two star hotel with a one star bump for being able to say you stayed on Las Ramblas.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

The best way to save your money in Barcelona is to Keep Your Hands Directly On Your Wallet Or Purse At All Times!!! I had my pocket picked for the first time in over 38 years of traveling, and I am a Police Officer (I didn't feel a thing). The Police Station was full of people reporting Thefts. There was an Italian Police Officer in our hotel and he told me he had his pocket picked within 5 minutes of arriving in Barcelona. The Police Officer taking my report told me there is a lot of crime driven by drugs in Barcelona.

Marginal Hotel, Great Location

Bottom Line, If the room had a problem they couldn't fix it. Our room lacked a working safe. After stating they would send someone up in 5 to 10 minutes. then with pursistant questioning they admitted it wouldn't get fixed. I requested a room change they informed me that was not possible. I witnessed similar problems with 2 other hotel customers so it's there standard operating practice. Besides that the hotel was clean, staff was friendly and the location was good. 2 warnings PICK-Pockets are rampent and some nights Bands will play in the sidestreets next to the hotel until 4:00 a.m. so don't expect a peaceful night of sleep!

location challenged

I would rate this as a 2 star Bates hotel. What hotel room does not have a clock? Had a princess phone. Beds were longer full size-though I expected doudle queens. Towels were so thin you could see thru them. . Location is good except when you arrive at hotel and experience difficulty in getting to the hotel. no place to park car.

Awfull Hotel

If your looking for a good place to stay in barcelona dont stay here. Rooms are dirty and loud. The beds are like sleeping on the floor and the pillows could be from the 1980'S (so thin its like not having one at all). The staff was fine and the location is right on the main strip by the port but other then that the hotel is run like a frat house people yelling inside all night and walls are so thin that at 8;30 you hear everything in the hallway and I booked on the quiet side

great hotel but loud

The hotel was very elegant with marble floors etc. Very friendly and helpful staff. Very large rooms for a European hotel. Great location on La Rambla. The bed was somewhat uncomfortable, but not too bad. The only drawback was that the street it is on (La Rambla) is very loud until about 4:00 - 5:00 am which makes sleeping very difficult.

Convenient even if not luxurious

This hotel is right in the heart of Barcelona's Las Ramblas, almost equidistant from the Columbus Memorial and Placa de Catalunya. Very conveniently located for access to all tourist buses and a number of iconic attractions like La Boqueria market, the Cathedral, Placa Reial, La Pedrera, Casa Batllo, etc. The common areas and lobby are beautiful but the rooms are quite old and tired. Basic amenities are included but no irons are provided and unless you bring your own you have to pay dearly for laundry/ ironing services. The pillows are quite odd, paper thin, long and narrow. You definitely need to request extras to sleep comfortably. I had seen before booking that people complained about the noise from the lively street. We had no such issues and found the room to be rather quiet with the exception of housekeepers who were virtually yelling in the hallways early each morning. Another oddity was the bathroom. There were no surfaces in the shower to place soap, shampoo or anything else and the shower was only partially enclosed by a glass panel so there was a flood every time you took a shower. Not a huge deal but I wouldn't call it convenient. Light/power outlets inside the room were controlled by your room key which had to be inserted in a slot near the door. Maybe this is common in Europe but I had never seen it before so it took me a minute to figure out. When you left the room and took your key the light & power went off automatically after a few minutes. While I realize that this is economical and saves energy, you can't leave anything charging in the room like a cell phone or camera batteries. Overall this hotel was worth the money for its location, otherwise amenities were just OK.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Naturally, there are hundreds of tapas places all over Barcelona. Most seem to offer the same stuff which honestly wasn't great. However, we found a wonderful place right next to Placa de Catalunya on Las Ramblas called Cerveceria Baviera with huge variety, much better and actually cheaper. For regular food, try La Fonda. It was simply fabulous, very close to the hotel, and the best price we found.

Weekend Trip

The location of the hotel almost makes up for the small room and so-so staff. I had to keep switching the breaker on and off so the electricity in the room would work, but the bathroom was nice and very new, and the room was fine as a place to crash after full days of sight seeing. Far too expensive for what the room was though, barely wide enough for the 2 twin beds, even by European hotel standards.
