Pretty good aparthotel

Staff, I have to say, are excellent. The 'hotel' (an urbanizacion complex really) was kept very clean and the services offered are good with the exception of the rubbish Wi-Fi at 0.1Kbps (not Mbps) down and 0.4Kbps up, I ended up using tethering on my phones data package (excellent cellular service in the area at avg. 12Mbps down and 2.2Mbps up). My only real issues are: build quality - I suppose typical Spanish build quality (below average normally) and fittings quality. Everything about the buildings screams cheap, cheap, cheap! The patio doors squealed Royally everytime you moved it and even the wardrobe doors (exactly the same things as the patio sliders) were noisy. Everything that has an 'outside' is double locked and there are warning signs telling you to double lock everything behind you. As we were on the ground floor, we had large grilles made from 1/2" solid steel that had to be closed and locked when not in use. I wonder what a UK fire safety officer would have to say about that? You absolutely need a car if you are to stay here, it's about 2 1/2 km to the neareast form of life (bar / restaurant / supermarket / shop), and parking when you do have a hire car can be a little difficult on some occasions. There is a lot of parking available but you may have to park the opposite side of the complex from where your room is - not a huge issue but something to bear in mind. Would I stay there again? Yes, I would. It was comfortable enough but I would say if you're in D block, it can be a little noisy from the utility area under the ground floor. Back to the poor build quality, it appears that everyone has tiled floors and you can hear every footstep from a couple of apartments in every direction - sound proofing was not a top priority at build time. We tried various local restaurants and they were all friendly and served decent food for reasonable prices. There are day trips to Gibralter from Mijas and it is well worth the effort, you need to book in a local travel office though. If you are a smoker or drinker, Gibralter prices are much lower than Spain's prices but the Customs Officers on the way back WILL check what you are bringing in and WILL confiscate EVERYTHING if you are over the (mean) allowances. Spain has no money and don't want their citizens buying cheap from Gibralter. The Spaniards are limited to 80 cigarettes per MONTH! If you do go to Gibralter, take Sterling not Euros, you'll pay well over the odds if you only have Euros. On the car hire front, we had a Fiat 500 for a week and it did exactly as it said on the tin, cost less than 50 Euros in fuel and not much more than that for the car rental for a whole 7 days! There are a LOT of Brits in this area (Costa del Sol), if you want Spanish culture and interest, this is not for you. Weather was reasonable for February, typically around 16C to 19C most days although the nights were cool at around 6C or 7C. Still much warmenr than home which was 0C at the time we were away. Sorry it was so long winded :)

Loved it - will visit again

Best apartment we've ever stayed in. We hired a car so the location wasn't an issue for us. Cabapino Beach nearby is very nice. Restaurants around Cala Mijas and beach were great too. Dont go if you don't like stairs. Pool is unheated but you get used to it instantly if you jump in. Due to wonderful gardens, there are a few annoying flies around - just stay away from the plants and go around the pool edge. A really great complex. The indoor pool, sauna, jacuzzi and gym was a great way to spend a few hours on the couple of rainy days we had. Snack bar was great. The restaurant was ok but the food was nothing special - great service and surroundings though. Will book again - potentially through Club Infiniti if we can get good flight prices as this would be a perfect bargain holiday.

Entertainment tip: In Hotel

Do try the in-house entertainment every night except Saturday. There's some in the restaurant and some in the bar. We had a real good night with Silvio and also Michelle Jane who transformed a drab, miserable night into a holiday high-light. Also, Happy Hour is great - two of any drink you wish for the price of one. Just get used to queueing for a bit.

Relaxed Atmosphere

The resort is really nice & quite relaxed, but to stay here you really need to have a car, for which there is ample parking. Reception staff need to up their game a bit but the maintenance, house-keeping & catering staff all do a fabulous job. Our 2 bed apartment had all the mod cons. The resort is really hard to find for 1st time visitors; it took us hours as we had the address down as Mijas, not Mijas-Costa, which is 5 miles up the road. Also, my Sat-Nav found 3 Calle Topacio addresses in this region, so my advice is print off a map & if the sat-nav lets you down, aim for a nearby road. Ideal spot for those with young families as it's very quiet at night. Go for the half-board option when checking in as it's good value & the food is very good also.

Great for families....but must have car

This is a nice resort, beautifully maintained & rooms are very well-appointed with all mod-cons. You definitely need a car to stay here, for which there's ample parking. It's very difficult to find for 1st time visitors & our Sat-Nav didn't help as there are 2 other streets with the same name in the vicinity. It's in Mijas-Costa, not Mijas or Mijas Pueblo, despite whatever address you're given. Head towards Marbella from Malaga on the main dual-carriageway & get off when you see the Miraflores golf resort on your right. We didn't find the reception staff all that helpful, but the house-keeping & catering staff were fabulous. We didn't spot this until checking out, but we could've upgraded to half board for the week for about £250 I think....to include breakfasts & dinner, which is a bargain. Other reviews didn't rate the food,...I thought it was excellent. Evening entertainment not the best,...more a place for those with young families as it was very quiet at night. An ideal base from which to explore the region by car, alternating days out with days by the pool.

Lovely!

Oasis is an accurate name....this charming little apartment/condo complex had a wonderfully calm vibe. Our one bedroom apartment was quite spacious with full kitchen (including utensils/plates/appliances), laundry machine, etc. The only thing to know is that while they do give you packets of shampoo and body wash and a tiny bar of soap, you will likely need to bring all other (or better) toiletries. The atmosphere was great. You could hear noise if other guests were loud, but it was quiet for the most part. The only drawback was that the outdoor pool was only open 10 am to 5 pm which was odd because the sun did not set until after 8 pm. Also, you must purchase a swim cap to swim in the indoor pool. You can do so at the shop in the lobby, which also had a wonderful grocery selection at competitive prices with the supermarkets down the street. Overall a great experience. Don't miss the Flemenco show, and there are other activities and events that were fun and not pushy. We spent much of the day out of the hotel exploring most of Andalucia,....a fantastic trip!!!

Time-saving tip: In Hotel

Buy groceries/food in the shop on site as the prices are very near to the supermarkets at the bottom of the hill near A-7. Also, there is a free wine tasting in the shop anytime. Also recommend Bodega Quitapenas near the airport for traditional Andalucian sherry.

Unbeatable location for the price

We've spend just a few days in this hotel but we found it very nice. Perfect location: close to the town and not to far away from the city. Nice view from the room which are pointing the sea. Ideal for family trip. Not so Hotel atmosphere, more like private apartments.

Grangefield Oasis Hotel, Mijas Spain

The hotel rooms were spacious and nice for family. The location was too far from everything with young children. The walk was at least a mile to the stores and beach. There are no sidewalks and the walk was very windy with a steep uphill walk back to the hotel. The hotel was adequate with a store, indoor pool and adorable restaurant and bar. However, the original advertisement online was misleading. I would never consider the indoor pool, hot tub and sauna a spa! Even though We had to make an extra effort because of the hotel, we enjoyed the Picasso museum in Malaga and the beach and boardwalk of Marbella! I would suggest staying in Marbella, it is beautiful and classy there!
