Ignorant New Guy
They're trying hard...
Despite the listing, this is NOT a 5 star hotel: the tower is (although it is completely detached from the rest of the facility), but the rest is all 4 star at best. It's nearly impossible to tell from the listed room types which rooms are in the tower and which aren't. I couldn't - I ended up in a "garden room." - My room had a very strong mildew smell which the room air freshener was not even close to covering. Otherwise room was very clean, but a little spartan. - I'd specifically searched for free Wi-Fi in selecting this room - it was half of why I selected it - but it was only available in the lobby... and for a steep fee! In the room was hardwired only, quite slow, and the same fee. - Bed was only slightly softer than the floor. - On top of these, the last night at about 1am the room doorbell started spontaneously ringing about every 10 minutes - they finally got it silenced after about 2 hours. Never offered any real apology or consolation.Overall, this should be two listings, one 5 star (which did seem very nice) and one not. The front desk staff (save one person) almost seemed to have the attitude of "you've already paid for this (through [...]), so we don't have to earn your money." The rest of the staff was VERY nice. -- Not Recommended as a 5 STAR Hotel --

Stay away from the "Body Massage" places that don't have big glass windows on the front - they're more than you think! The spa at the hotel is quite good (if not more expensive though) and very professional.

Completely soddisfactory . Good location, night life, bargain shopping and very lovely people in a very green enviroment. Soon I can will be back to this wonderful place again.

We've booked the garden view for
We've booked the garden view for 2 nights as they were on special for the green season. The rooms are a bit small but very clean. If we have to pay for normal room rates that I think it's far too expensive. We were not happy with the service as no ones help us with the luggages. The breakfast room was quite packed eventhough it was the green season when we went.

The Amari is a lovely hotel with all the facilities of any good hotel anywhere in the world. The staff are courteous and helpful. The breakfast had a assortment of food, not only western but also local dishes, to cater to everyone's needs.

An Oasis
We stayed five nights in the Garden Area of the hotel in a terraced suite with a nice view of the pool. Our room was lovely with the right touch of everything (nice bed, warm robes, and complimentary water). The buffet breakfast had a variety of options and was served outside with a sweeping view of the garden and pool. Overall, the hotel turned out to be an excellent choice. The staff was always friendly but did not speak English that well. Usually, I don't expect this when I am in a foreign country unless I am in a five star hotel. When I asked for things I usually got the wrong thing at first. The garden wing is cheaper and I think nicer, even though it is older and away from the main road a bit. It just has more character. The beach itself is not very nice and they charge for a chair. The day trips away are hit and miss. But, the food in Pattaya is excellent. I would definitely go back there again.

If you want to eat like a Thai then head out of the hotel from the garden wing lobby. Make a right and then another right onto Beach Road 2. Follow this road until you see the bus station on the left. It's about a ten minute walk. Next to the bus station is a string of local places to eat, all bunched together, and serving every Thai dish you can imagine and good prices. I highly recommend a sojourn away one evening for a bite to eat.

Excellent Value and Location
The Amari Orchid is a wonderful place to stay. Located in the quieter northern sector of Pattaya, it is still on the beach and only a few minutes from the downtown area. Two pools, one for laps, and one for fun with a bar in the middle of it. Happy Hour twice per day, once at lunch, once at dinner. Many restaurants to choose from, and Mantra is exquisite. Friendly staff. Would definitely stay here again!
