Over night theatre break
On arriving we found our rooms were not available till half past 3 even though check in was 2 o'clock .i booked 5 rooms and they overlooked the carnival and had castle view which was great .rooms were lovely and comfortable .only other mishap was that the restaurant staff never had a booking for us because reception forgot to add us to list which meant 2 missed out on breakfast as they went before rest of us .staff were quite rude to them and never bothered to sort the problem out .manager on desk seemed un interested in what was going on and never once appologised .

good place
I stayed there just one night but i have been in edinburgh before and this hotel was realy at the centre of the city. it is just walking distance to both edinburgh rail station and bus(number 100) stop to go airport. you can walk to scott monument, national gallery and royal miles as well. just one important criticism for the hotel is receptions place. it is at the first floor not the entrance. even to use elevator to go reception people should use stairs. not convenient for disabled person.

Fantastic location
We just stayed one night in this hotel but have stayed several times in the past. The location is fantastic - shops, bars and restaurants right on the doorstep. Old Edinburgh can be reached quite easily too - about 15 minutes walk and you will be at the castle or in the middle of original Edinburgh with its cobbled lanes and amazing history. No car park at this hotel therefore more suited to those travelling by train or bus. Only had afternoon tea this visit - which was lovely and reasonably priced. Views from the restaurant are amazing and if you are lucky enough to get a castle view room, you can enjoy these views even more. Room was clean and comfortable and we were able to check in early for no additional cost. This hotel also allows you to leave luggage there on check out which is really handy to allow you to enjoy the delights of Edinburgh on your departure day too. I got a good deal to stay at this hotel so it was definately worth the money. Will go again.

overbooking
our room had been booked on via internet. Upon arrival, the room had been allocated to somebody else (not yet arrived). 15 min. later, we were allocated a new room. Unfortunately, this room overlooked the inside "yard" with an excellent view on the air conditionning system. The noise generated by the system was such, that we were kept awake the whole night!!

Lovely central hotel
A girlfriend and I spent two nights at the Mercure at the end of July. We had a fantastic time, as it's close to everything. We were placed in a room at the back of the hotel, but after asking to be moved to the front, with a view of the castle, the hotel receptionist did this no problem. Overall a pleasant stay, I would definitely stay again. I'd def recommend the Dungeon tour as we laughed so much.

Average Motel-Style Hotel
Well-located; however, the non-renovated rooms were in bad shape. Our room overlooked a distasteful view, which was complemented by equally distasteful odors from the kitchen below. The walls are thin, and the shower was difficult to work. The toilet was not easy to flush as well. The staff was generally friendly; however, there was one rude, non-helpful staff-member. I'll spare you the details, but all in all, as friendly as some of the staff may be, they will not go out of their way to make your stay extra pleasant. For instance, when I asked where a certain attraction is, the receptionist rudely replied "there is a tourist office in town." Hope this helps. All in all, a 2.5/5.

Single Room for 3 nights
Booked the hotel after looking at Mercure website and seeing the photographs of the room but most importantly location...which couldn't have been any better if your coming into the city via the Airlink service and want to remain central to Edinburgh. Couldn't fault the hotel staff...very professional, freindly and willing to serve your needs. The hotel lounge is very comfortable and relaxing atmosphere with good Wifi facilities and views overlooking Princess Street and Waverly area. The room however was a dissapointment, I was on the 7th floor which provided very good views across the city.. however the room was nowhere near as nice as shown on the website photographs. Slightly cramped, Decor was outdated with old furniture and fittings, Cehtral Heating although it wasn't particularly needed it was switched off and the bed always tended to move away from the wall if you leaned against it too much, and there was also a slightly dampiness smell. and bathroom also outdated. Room facilities were reasonable with tea and coffee, but a snack to go with (shortbread biscuit) would have been nice. I would have expected alot better considering the image portrayed on the website and the fact that I was staying for 3 nights.

Short walk from hotel
You can checkout of the hotel and leave your bags with reception staff and come and pick them up later in the evening. The hotel is short walking distance to the Airlink Bus Service if your travelling to/from EDI airport.

Mercure in Edinburgh
Just got back froma great little visit to Edinburgh. We stayed at the Mercure right in the middle of everything. Location was great. The view from our fourth floor room was spectacular. The largest bed was a full which is too small for me and my wife!!!. There was a charge for wifi in the room which is ridiculous. We ordered a wakeup call for our final day and it never came. Thank God we woke up at the right time. An average hotel in a great location

Great Location
Great view or will be once street work completed. Food rather pricey but well cooked and served hot. Breakfast offered is good and well stocked. Rooms are comfortable but show some wear. Had a wonderful stay and was close to all attractions, shopping, buses and tours.
