An excellent choice for the price

If you are looking for an inexpensive West End hotel close to theaters and museums, this is it. It's quite inexpensive for central London, so there are NO extra amenties - no room service, no hair dryer, no tissue; but the basement room we had was clean and quiet. More importantly, we could walk to everything we wanted to do. If you don't want to walk, Covent Garden tube stop is nearby.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

Go to the Bristish Museum when it opens in the morning. It's less crowded then.

Not the greatest

I stayed in this hotel because I needed to leave the country due to an emergency and needed a hotel to stay 1 night and not break the bank. I needed to be close to the tube so I could leave early in the morning by foot. The hotel was the cheapest I could find and it served its purpose. The hotel smelled of mildew/body odor throughout -- including my room. Other than the very offensive smell, the room was tidy but sparse. Not even a landline phone to call the desk. My hot water did not work -- the water was ice cold even after 20 minutes of running and fiddling with the knob, but I was in such a hurry in the morning I didn't have time to walk down to reception to tell them about it. There were lots of shops and restaurants around the area so I think it was a nice location although I didn't stay long enough to find out.The food in the cafe was absolutely the worst I have ever had and expensive for such poor quality. The soup tasted straight from the can and the burger was obviously frozen and microwaved. Even the bread tasted stale. The staff was friendly enough, though. Truly, if it had not been an emergency, I would have checked out immediately.

Fantastic Family Getaway

Overall service was awesome!!!! From when we checked in until we left. Anything we needed it was given! I asked for directions to the closest place to print an email and they printed it at the hotel for free! All the staff were informative and polite-I don't remember all the names, but Ty was very helpful. The High Holburn hotel was in the best location, we walked everywhere! I would stay here again!

Short break in London

Perfect location for sightseeing by foot or hopping on a bus. Nice room, kingsize bed and great views, we were on 12th floor. Hairdryer in room would have been nice. 188 bus goes from Kingsway all the way to Greenwich, children under 11 free travel, and a great day of museums (free) and finish off with a boat trip back to Westminster pier. Who says London has to be expensive!

Good location, could have been cleaner

I arrived at the hotel on Drury Lane, but they were full, so I was given a room at the other building on High Holborn a 2 minute walk away, which wasn't a problem. The room I was given was a disabled room and was very spacious to allow wheelchair access to all areas except the side of the bed nearest the window. It also had a wheelchair height handle to open the window. The only disadvantage to me, as an able bodied person, was that the rail in the cupboard was too low to hang a dress on and the sink in the bathroom was too low for me. However, they didn't cause me any great hardship. The room was clean, although there were smears where surfaces and shiny areas had been wiped over and not dried properly/polished. There was no socket by the bed, which was annoying as I, like many people, use my mobile phone as a clock and alarm, but I had to charge it overnight on the other side of the room. The bathroom was again very large in the style of a wet room. There were lots of rails and handles and an emergency cord. It was clean enough, but there were unsightly signs that the cistern had been leaking and there were limescale deposits around the rails and fittings. This is unnecessary even in the hardest water areas if cleaning is done properly. The water pressure from the shower was so poor I had trouble washing the shampoo from my hair. The staff at reception were very nice and efficient. The location was excellent for my purposes; 5 minute walk from Holborn Station on the Central Line and 10 minutes walk from Lincoln's Inn Fields.

not a real hotel

Travelodge seems to be a place to crash and get out first thing in the morning again. There's no real check-in counter, just malfunctioning machines, and the staff is pretty unhelpful. There's no luggage room, so you can't leave your suitcase anywhere if you leave London later in the day. We booked a double room, but were given a twin room. Overall a pretty disappointing experience.
