Great facilities...very average rooms
Being a functioning athletic club, this property has great athletic facilities (boxing ring, basketball court, olympic pool, fitness center, etc.). However, this is THE ONLY reason to stay here. The location is in a rather scummy area of L.A., and the rooms are small, dark and no frills. If you are not into sports, beware! Finally, the check-in and check-out procedures are as ancient as the space itself. Actually took 10 min. to check out by supplying a c/c to the front desk, [...]

Comfortable and well-situated
The best thing about this hotel is its location--right in the heart of downtown L.A. in walking distance to good restaurants and sights. The second best thing is the athletic club itself--a large and small pool, an entire floor of exercise equipment, and racquetball courts. The staff was friendly and helpful. The daily free breakfast was wonderful, till 11 a.m. on weekends and 10:30 on weekends, in a large comfortable dining room. Interesting old photos of boxers, etc. on various walls. The negative was the room itself. The bathroom had a tiny sink and no room for toiletries. There was another sink and surface outside the bathroom but no mirror. The toilet seat did not stay up. The curtains did not close completely so sun came in every morning. Lighting was weak too. We would have stayed in the suite but couldn't afford it.

rookie mistake
spent a fair amount of dough to stay at this place. service was great, place was clean, but it was the worlds smallest hotel room. fortunately, we only were there for one night but any longer would have been a challenge. there were some other issues like the room being 85 degrees when we got there (someone turned tstat up) and the shower was really hard to dial in the right temp. biggest issue was that the AC unit was really loud. picking this hotel was a rookie mistake on my part, next time ill spend the extra $75 to stay at the marriot across from the stadium.

Wonderful First Experience
I have been coming to LA for business every couple of months for over a year now, and have FINALLY found the best hotel for my fashion industry shopping needs. This hotel is convenient, spacious, gracious and and experience in itself! Even though I didn't partake in the Gym experience, I really enjoyed the SPA after a day of Market Buying - relaxing in the jacuzzi and breathing deeply in the steam was just what my body needed to regenerate for the next day. Also, the fact that the gym is actually a club gym - meaning persons from the actual "real world" attend - made me feel less the outsider "business traveller" and more part of some community - which was truly a unique aspect. The continental breakfast was fantastic - freshly prepared omlettes & waffles!!! Yay yay yay. The perfect ending to my stay at the club. Thanks so much to the staff for making up my mind - finally as to where I will ALWAYS stay when I come to downtown LA! PS - and, oh yes, the room was spacious and actually had a view! - all this for $150. Don't pass this up.

Pleasent Surprise on New Year's Eve
New Year's Eve stay at the LA Athletic Club. Staff was very friendly and gave good service. Hotel is located in the jewelry district. Hotel parking garage was reasonable . Excellent breakfast was included in the room rate, which was a bargain for New Year's Eve in LA! Lots of odd characters in the area.

Great!
Great location. Lots of restaurants, night clubs and shopping. I loved the old school decorum but it's defiantly a mans hotel. Lots of wood and dark colors. Wish I had more time to use the gym and library. I just wish the bathroom was more up to date. Separate vanity was nice but the tub and toilet were very dated. And parking was not covered in the cost of the room.. $12.00 a day.

More than 4 night clubs within 1 block was super nice. went from club to club got sideways. Went back to room to take an hour nap then back to the clubs by 1 to close out the night. 711 on the corner for water and Monster to go with with a bottle of vodka from the bottle shop up the bodega to keep it going on the rooftop deck till dawn.
