Nice grounds

Nice location & grounds in Shelter Island. The live Blues band was nice and fun to go! We were in room 156 - the noise level of the 2nd story guests were loud! Don't stay on the first floor! Also this was facing the parking lot, which we could hear a lot of traffic & guests walking by.

Great Location

The harbor view was great. I also liked the fact that it wasn't right in the middle of San Diego, it was nice to be in a slightly quieter area.

The hotel offers live music during happy hour and sometimes even has larger concerts every once in a while. Check their schedule for your stay because there may be a good concert going on.

Hidden Fees

The stay was nice and the room was comfortable. The housekeeping was excellent. The location was right off the bay. There was the WiFi fee, the parking fee, and then the "incidentals" fee. What was that all about? I never got a clear answer. I would recommend the nice stay but would warn about the incidentals.

A Dream Hotel for Empty Nesters!

This hotel is like visiting a tropical island without the travel. The lush landscape is fantastic; the patio outside the room is semi private and relaxing with a small table and two chairs - a delightful place to have meals. We had a pool side room and did not find any noise problem. The bed is very comfortable and the bathroom is beautiful! There are concerts that end by 10:30. This was not a problem for us. The staff are all friendly and sincerely desire to help if you need anything – like where to meet the Trolley shuttle, etc. The room service is great; the restaurant has great food. The panna cotta is worth having a small meal to save room for dessert! Book this room on a non holiday.. The rooms cost as much as 4X more on holidays. Still temping because the hotel, room, pool area and restaurant are 5 star. We are already planning to fly into San Diego from Washington to stay a few days. The hotel has airport shuttle. What a dream way to have a vacation.

Sightseeing tip: Not Applicable

Take the Old Town Trolley and SEAL tours. The Old Town Trolley shuttle will pick up at the hotel and return you later in the day. The Trolley tour allows a hop off hop on tour. This is a good way to see the whole area – then decide where you want to spend time. Locals say Little Italy has a lot of great food. Be sure to check out the free entertainment at the Spreckles Organ Pavilion in Balboa Park. It had 50s- 60s music the evening we were there.

Good 'family' hotel

The reason that I call it 'family hotel' is its convenience. Most people come to San diego for visiting the Sea Wolrd and other attractions. This hotel is very close to them. After enjoying them, you can come back easily and relax your stress.

A Wonderful Hideaway On Shelter Island in San Diego

Having enjoyed a great concert at Humphrey's Backstage Live Music Lounge in September, 2012 and their exquisite Sunday champagne brunch, I decided to return in early August, 2013 and experience a weekend get-a-way at the hotel of this most enticing resort. This hotel is conveniently located approximately 3 miles from the San Diego International Airport and car rental lots. Upon arrival I was greeted by a friendly desk clerk who promptly completed the check-in process and provided directions to my room. The restaurant offers contemporary international cuisine and an extensive wine list. Room service is also available as well as a limited menu at the concert venue; food is also available at the pool but must be ordered through room service. The grounds are well maintained and beautiful flowers adorn the walkways. The guest rooms are comfortable and nicely appointed featuring beautiful woodwork throughout; the fridge, microwave, patio, and safe are all pluses. A slight downside is the very small shower, a toilet handle which must be held down until it flushes, and a mildly uncomfortable bed who mattresses are in need of an upgrade. Parking is tight on concert nights but manageable. The biggest disappointment was the fact that at check-in I was given a Humphrey's Passport booklet which allegedly offered $200. value in savings. At check-out, upon inspection of my final bill, I discovered that I was charged a daily Passport Fee of $9.95 regardless of usage. Guests should be made aware of this automatic fee at check-in so that they can properly assess the value of accepting said charge. BOTTOM LINE: be sure to skim the Passport booklet at check-in, and refuse this perk if you do not think you will take full advantage of the coupons. ADDITIONALLY, when using a Passport coupon it must either be charged to a credit card, or to your room (no cash is accepted). Overall this is a very nice place to stay!

BEWARE OF THE DAILY PASSPORT FEE WHICH YOU WILL INCUR UPON CHECK-OUT! PERUSE THE PASSBOOK BOOKLET AT CHECK-IN AND DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT IT IS WORTH PAYING $9.95 PER DAY TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE TOTAL SAVINGS OFFERED PER COUPON.
