Victorian style, family atmosphere and free breakfast near Union Square
Comfort, hospitality and convenience are plentiful at the Hotel Beresford, a quaint family-owned hotel blocks from the action of San Francisco's Union Square. From the street, the Victorian-style building looks like an apartment complex. Inside, however, cozy touches such as tufted chairs and whitewashed wood present a down-home feel. This feeling extends to the White Horse Tavern, the on-site restaurant, where pints outnumber flutes and the jukebox is always on.
Highlights
- Knowledgeable staff
- Walking distance to Union Square, Chinatown and City Hall
- On-site tavern is a replica of an old English pub
- Refrigerated honor bars in every room

Great place, the Beresford
This is the third time that we have been to this hotel. It has a great location (just two blocks north of Union Square and 1 1/2 blocks west of Powell. It is an old-time hotel. Spotless rooms, good elevator, good service. Nice continental breakfast and wonderful pub with great customers. The restaurant is currently not working because of the retro-fitting that is being done, but there are plenty of places to eat nearby. We'll keep going back there because we love it.

love this hotel
The staff was helpful and courteous even though it was a really busy weekend in the city! One staff member couldn't get through to a cab company on the phone so she spent fifteen minutes hailing us a cab on the street! What service! And the minibar was delightful with a very reasonable beresford brand house table wine, a small selection of beers and sodas. Very charming atmosphere and great location in the city for shopping and site seeing. We even stayed an extra night!

Charming hotel, friendly staff
The hotel is conveniently located in downtown, just two block east from Union Square and very close to cable cars and public transport. Charming hotel with lots of character. Definitely a deal!! Courteous and friendly staff, always helpful. Comparable to the service you get from 5-star hotels. Would definitely stay here again and recommend to friends and families.

Everything I Want in a Hotel
I was in town to visit my UCSF student -- did a quick trip in, caught the Bart to downtown, jogged up the hill to the hotel, checked in and jogged back to take a the light rail to UCSU. I got back at 10:00 p.m. was greeted, asked for the key - which I left so I wouldn't lose it. The desk clerk carded me and I got my key and went to my room and crashed. The next day, I looked around - they place was wonderful, tidy, clean and such a well preserved historic hotel. Staircases everywhere - and an elevator that works like it was installed yesterday. Charming! Breakfast was set up in the adjoining bar - the coffee was great and the baked goods fresh, along with fresh fruit -- I had a wonderful conversation with a woman from Wales and got the impression that the hotel has been discovered by internationals. Then I had a great conversation with the desk clerk - learned that hotel manager has been there for 30 years overseeing housekeeping, breakfast and all the personal touches -- it really shows. I also learned that the bar is a hang-out for local actors. I didn't use the computer -- no there isn't internet in the room but I got what I needed on my phone. And I could have printed my boarding pass in the computer room. This is a hotel that was very reasonably priced -- and will I go back? Definitely!

Very good location to most of
Very good location to most of the things we like to see in San Francisco. Good service. They had cheaper valet parking then you can find yourselves, but still it cost about $ 30 a day to park inclusive tax. We recommend the hotel.

Having read other comments we
Having read other comments we wondered if we were making a mistake when we booked on line. In fact we were very happy there, front room with the window open was quite noisy but what else do you expect in a city. Thought it very good value and would use it again.

At well under $100 (off season)
At well under $100 (off season) in downtown SF, this was a hard to beat deal. The hotel was clean, quiet, and even provided a decent breakfast. I would definitely stay here again at a similar price.

Good hotel for the price. The
Good hotel for the price. The Continental breakfast was better than most I've experienced and we liked the bar downstairs. The rooms were decent and clean. Some drawbacks were our shower did not drain well and there was no counter space in the bathroom and we were right next to the elevator which was noisy. The location was good, though.
