Green boutique Nob Hill hotel blends history and eco-consciousness
Green is the reality at the Hotel Carlton, a Joie de Vivre property. The Nob Hill hotel is certified by the city of San Francisco as a green business, is one of the few hotels in town to have solar panels, and was the first hotel in the U.S. to receive the LEED EB O&M distinction. The structure itself is historic, and dates back to the early 1900s. Inside, the vibe is international, as walls are adorned with art photos from the American Himalayan Foundation.

Just OK
The room was kind of old, and has central heating (no AC). It was pretty cold, as they would turn off the heat in the middle of the night - I later got a room heater after this ruined a couple of days sleep. The breakfast in the restaurant does not open well until 8.00, but there are a few cafes outside. Rooms were clean, and the front desk was helpful. Internet access was slow at times. Not great, but not bad either.

On arrival, the staff gave me
On arrival, the staff gave me a brief but very helpful intro on the area - where to go and where not to go as it was my first time visit to San Francisco and I was on my own. Very much appreciated. The room is of good size, bathroom was nice and free wifi in room. The hotel is around 6 blocks away from Union Square. It was perfectly ok in the day but felt a little bit far when it got dark. Overall pleasant experience.

Long Weekend
Loved the tiny elevator. As everyone says... staff is very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the hotel.

Hotel Was Great
The room was a little cold at night but everything else was great. The staff was really helpful in giving you directions around the city. Telling you where shopping areas are , what buses to take, walking routes, and what ares to avoid. I had to go to the financial district every morning and found that they have a shuttle service that is complimentary from 7:30 to 9 am.

San Francisco with no rain!
HC is in a great neighborhood location. Far enough away from the tourist traps to enjoy the peace and quiet, but close enough to walk right into them if you want.

Great funky little hotel
We didn't have much time at the hotel since we got in late and had to leave the next morning, but the place was adorable, with great decor, and great service.

sleepy in san fran
Hotel was fun and festive; staff was very helpful and nice. However the room walls are thin and we could hear everything in the hallway and adjacent rooms all night. Good place for the going-out-all-night crowd.

better than expected
nice room,great staff,no noise from where we we`re and that`s what people said in previous reviews might be a down side.the walls were fine we didn`t hear our neighbors.a very nice place and i`ll stay there again.excellent value to boot.can`t beat it!
