SoCal Road Trip

We stopped in SB on our way up the coast. This hotel is right on the beach and near some good food. The room was average, you are paying for the location.

Very Misleading

I booked this hotel at what I would consider a high price so I could be near the water. The room was beautiful, but there was no air conditioning. I have stayed at many beachfront hotels and I have never experienced no AC. Because there was no AC we had to keep the windows wide open. Anyone that passed could see inside. Not cool. I feel guests should be alerted to this in advance. It should also be made known that this is a non-smoking facility. My cousin had to walk to a park to smoke a cigarette. Lastly, we called down for down-alternative pillows and there were none available. We ended up having to check out and check-in to another hotel, since we are both allergic to down and the room was unbearably warm. It was just too much to take when we paid $250.00 for one night.

Fantastic location

We apreciated to stay in that hotel because of the nice location. But, a nightmare was the breakfast! In accordance to the offered apartments there is not enough room to enjoy a breakfast. Too many guests overloading the small room and there is no change to get a seat for your partner, either yourself on the same table. It's a shame that the hotel charged always their apartment prices including breakfast. For us we have decided never come back to this hotel.

On the beach in Santa Barbara

there are lots of beach front hotels, and what you want is a place that is helpful, comfortable base for expeditions. Oceana is terrrfic--attentive staff, great breakfast, nice ambiance, outdoor seating and a lovely lawn. Rooms are OK, functional not luxurious, location is the best.

Great location, tiny rooms, expensive price

I booked two nights here on a recent stay in Santa Barbara because I wanted to splurge and get something extra special and close to the water/beach for my girlfriend. The location of this hotel is great, across the street from the ocean. Walking distance to anything on lower State Street. However, you are going to pay through the nose, at least in the summertime, for that location. And what you get for that money in the size of the room is not much. We had a king bed, which was comfortable. But the room, which I think is advertised as 250 square feet, is not much larger than the bed is - maybe three to four feet on each side of the bed to the wall. The bathroom is immediately to the side of the bed, where the door is at head level, and the toilet is on the other side of the door - so when you go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, your partner can't help but hear everything. The bathroom itself was okay but similarly constrained in space - the most the shower door can open is about 45 degrees until it hits the toilet. Also, one thing I noticed about several places in the beachside Santa Barbara area is that the water tastes funny and smells like sulfur. I'm not sure if this is just a situation with the whole town, but it's unpleasant, and the hotel should look into filters. In addition, most beachside places in SB do not have air conditioning in the room. Most of the time the weather is cool enough where it doesn't matter, but we had one day where the afternoon was hotter than usual and by the evening the room was very warm. When it was time to sleep the room was still very hot, and we had no choice but to leave the window open, which a) didn't really help that much and b) just ensured that we heard every little noise from people walking by or slamming the gate to the pool shut. In conclusion, this hotel has a great location if that is what you care about most of all, but you don't get a lot for what you pay for. I discovered on this trip to Santa Barbara that in this town, the location of where you stay is a little pointless, as if you stay further away most things are only a 5-10 minute drive away and free or cheap parking is abundant. On the positives, the employees were very friendly and professional and the pool was nice, although I noticed a lot of dead bugs in the water.

Great location, small room

Loved the location and the amenities. Free bikes available to ride, walking distance to wharf and downtown area and staff was very helpful. The rooms were relatively clean and quiet but extremely small (not a place to hang out) so we were out and about during most of the trip. The hot tub and one swimming pool was out of order on the day of our trip.

Nice Location, but Get the Ocean View

This hotel was nice. The best thing about the hotel was the location. The hotel is beautifully situated across the road from the beach, with sweeping views of the ocean. That said, my room (204) had a view of the parking lot in the back. If I'd had an ocean view, my experience at this hotel would have gone from average to excellent. The location (and being able to see it) is everything for this place. Without that ocean view, this was a 3-star hotel at best.

Dining tip: In Hotel

Coffee people need not hunt for real coffee. The coffee served at the hotel is very good - dark, strong, flavorful... No need to worry about weak coffee here.

Beautiful

Beautiful Hotel. Room entrances are outside. I called ahead and asked for 2nd level room. They accomodated my request which was very kind, however put me in a room by cleaning closet. It was left open most of the day and the next morning by a towel holding door open. I didn't feel comfortable traveling by myself next to that room. Besides that, I will ask to not be put in that room again, the Hotel is Gorgeous. The bikes are free to take out to the pier. Location is fantastic. There is a 15 dollar fee to park your car per day that I did not know about. But parking was ample. Breakfast in am was great too. Staff was great!
