This intimate, Art Deco original is near all the best of South Beach

The Richmond bills itself as "Miami Beach's friendliest hotel." The same family has operated the business since it opened its doors in 1941, and the 92-room property is a local favorite. The oceanfront hotel and its neon-flooded exterior and original terrazzo floors fit in with its Art Deco neighbors. South Beach clubs, restaurants and shops are only a stroll away. Lush greenery delivers a sense of Hollywood glamour.

Highlights
  • Family-run Art Deco hotel
  • Beach path
  • Within walking distance to Ocean Drive, Lincoln Road and Collins Avenue
  • Heated outdoor pool surrounded by lush gardens
  • Rooftop terrace and heated half moon spa and coconut palm patio
Rooms

Room decor throws nods to old-world Florida with the vintage postcard-type framed prints and palm printed curtains as focal points. Look for retro details, too, such as Art Deco floor lamps, seafoam- and black-colored tile bathrooms, a 1930s-inspired clock, blond oak headboards and accent pieces. In case of a rain shower, which is common in South Florida, grab the red umbrella in the closet. Wi-Fi and high-speed Internet can be accessed for an additional charge.

Features

The Richmond's boutique identity adds to its intimacy. Nice touches include a cement path leading to a wood boardwalk and a half-moon spa tub strategically placed in front of a winding stream. On the rooftop terrace and solarium, take in the neon lights from South Beach.  An on-site cafe serves breakfast until mid-afternoon, and by night, guests can sip cocktails on the front porch.

Richmond is better than Motel 6.

It was very hard to find hotel since it is very old small hotel on South Beach. I called the front desk at 12am in the morning to get some direction from the Miami airport and unfortunately she can't give me any direction. We thought we will have ocean view which was not the case. There is no belcony on any room in this hotel. We had to keep our window close at all times since we can see the room on an adjacent hotel. The room was very small. If you are looking for something better than Motel 6 this is deffinitely it. They charge additional $35 per night for your park and at least good thing is it is a valey parking. No coffee in the room, additional charge for internet. One good thing about this hotel is you have direct access to pool and Ocean from the back side of the hotel and gate closes at 12am midnight.

If you don't plan on going long distance or visit any near by cities, than it is not a good idea to rent car and pay additional $35/night parking fees. It is useless to have rental car since it is very hard to find parking spot in south beach. We get to use our car twice since we visited Key West. The hotel is located at the heart of all actions and you can easily walk to shopping, dinning, clubs, beach, etc. Most of the restaurants in the area is very expensive. Our lunch and dinner for two was on average $145 /day and than if you add breakfast for two will be additioanl $20. If money doesn't matter this place is certainly a great fun place. I have enjoyed my vacation with my wife thoroughly since I haven't checked my credit card statement.

Nice Location! Less amenities

We checked in late Friday and were welcomed by the fact that hot water is not available for next 24 hours(means until Saturday late night.). Ok. Next we tried the TV it was not working.Though of ignoring it as I was very tired. Then the Air conditioning was not working and room was hot. We called the Front desk and they offered to change the room. By the time they came with new room's keys, the AC started working(Surprise!! did they turn it off deliberately??) Next day I tried the TV but it was still not working. Again I called the front desk.. and they said they will send someone up. But The started working immediately. Surprise!! Surprise!!(Did they turn it off deliberately??). Aprt from these problems the hotel has a great location, access to beach, jacuzzi, a pool(small in size though). Also the hotel restaurant is super expensive. Like a bagel for $5.5 and a cheese nachos for $12. I avoided having food there. Hotel is close to south beach, Lincoln Drive, Washington Ave. pretty much everything is accessible by walk.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Try to bargain as much as you can. every stuff is expensive. Try reducing price by 30-40% of the original cost they tell you. You will get some very nice cloths collections. You can find very huge brand/designer collection. European, American, LS clothings etc.

Decent hotel, great location

Staff was friendly, this is a decent middle of the road hotel - clean basic rooms, has a pool and a jacuzzi, and is in a great location. For the price, well worth it

Good value, close to the action

This hotel is best suited for the value-oriented traveler who doesn't intend on spending much time in their room, except to shower and sleep. The room was clean, but small and the walls were very thin so you could easily hear conversations in the next room. The room didn't contain many amenities outside of a flat-screen television...no fridge. The mattresses were okay, but nothing special. I would recommend this hotel for young couples or a small group of younger friends. The beach access was great, and they provided you with free towels. You are very close to Lincoln Road and not too far from Ocean Avenue (walking distance) so that was the best part. Overall, I enjoyed our stay, however you must have an open mind and okay with just average hotel amenities.

Worst Hotel ,Worst Experience

I took this room after going to higher end incomparision to other hotels which were cheap. It was our Anniversary and decided to take this.It was Crapy old room with Damp smell,Old outdated T.V on a hospital like stand ,Small and old bathroom and uncomfortable old matteress. Whole night i can hear the noise of next room's flush and even somebody peeing.Don't ever go here and spend some more dollars as this area is expensive to stay.

good location, a little noisy.

The best thing about this hotel was the location. Great location in the South Beach area. Walk from the nice pool area right to the beach is out the back gate. The bad thing was the noise and lack of staff present to attend to the noise situations. It appears that the South Beach area has been bit by the Hip-Hop bug, which is fine, but there still has to be some sort of control. It appears that no one has control at times. Be aware of this travelers, unless this is what you are looking for. The hotel has some refurbishing it needs to do to keep up with the competition. Overall not too bad. The rooms are small, but I think that may be the same story for other smaller hotels on the beach. There are so many hotels right nearby. It depends on what you want to pay and budget.

Nice hotel

I had a great experience at the hotel including the delicious breakfast. The pool was great, hot tub also and the ocean is just there. It is a great hotel if you want to stay just over the weekend and just have time, because it is noisy.
