Run far and fast
This place sucked from beginning to end. There were flags screaming at me from the start. Imagine getting out of the taxi and being greeted my a group of people picketing the very hotel you're staying at for 10 cent increase! To top it off they have been on a steady rotation for the past 5 years. After, fighting through that crowd you would think the bellboy, or customer service clerk were better. NOT! The bellboy insisted on taking my bag which meant automatic tip and gave it to another bellboy that was only 5 feet away. I proceeded to my room with bellboy #2 leading the way with my bags. (yet another tip) As the corridor was old and carpet was pretty banged up but I thought it was part of the whole theme, until I opened the door to my room. OMG! the room make me gag... the carpets were dirty, drapes dusty and leading to a emergency stairway. There was open electrical sockets and missing light bulbs. The air conditioner/heater was hanging off the wall and I didn't want to sleep on the sheets because everything else was nasty. I immediately went downstairs to complain and get another room and was told no other room were available. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME HERE...

Needs Total Renovation
The front desk employees and concierge were friendly and helpful, but our room was absurdly shabby. The baseboards and crown molding were unpainted boards, the bed was rock hard, the grout in the shower was moldy, the drapes and bedspread were cheap looking and our sheets were stained. I was very embarrassed to have my wife stay there - and am glad she has a since of humor. The hallways had the aroma of a Lysol-sprayed dollar movie theater. I would have rather pitched a tent in Millennium Park.

needs a facelift
the only decent, nice-looking thing about the hotel was the lobby hotel. I would have rather stayed in a motel.

Horrible Room
This Hotel had a nice Lobby, Check In was easy, and the location is great. That is the only good I have to say about this hotel. The room was disgusting, Holes in the carpet, Paint on the ceiling in the bathroom was all bubbled and cracked, towels were stained, carpet looks like it is from the 70's in style and dirt content. Draperies had tears in them. When we first got in the room none of the lights or electrical appliances (TV & Room Safe) would work. Come to find out everything is on one light switch. With out that on nothing works. I used the valet and my car sat there for over 45 minutes before finely being taken. I recommend to keep looking for other hotels.

Short walk from hotel
It's right on Michigan Avenue, lots to do there Millennium Park is about 2 blocks away, the Mag Mile is about 1/2 mile away. Everything is in walking distance and there is plenty of reasturants nearby to eat at (The hotel reasturant was closed the Saturday night I was there) but there is a local places and Bennigans near by.

Very Bad experience
I stayed at the Grand Congress Hotel in Chicago on Sep 15-08. he place was in a very bad shape. The room was not sound proofed and did not get to sleep well at night. The room has a serious structural issues and cracked open in the ceiling and bathroom walls. I was very disappointed from the service in the restaurant. The food was served cold and warmed up twice; I did not get French bread, as I was told no butter. I ordered for soda and did not get. Two difference people served my meal and not the best place to eat. I would never use your service for hotels and or recommend to anyone. A very very bad experience with your service.

Very unhappy
This hotel is a joke! We found out once we arrived that all the employees have been on strike for the last 5 years! This is the dirtiest hotel I have ever staid in. The 1st room we were in smelled like mildew so bad that we had to call down to the front desk as soon as we opened the door. The second room was not quite as bad but was dirty.

Great location, terrible facility
The Congress Plaza is a disaster in a great location. Damp carpet, leaky bathroom, smelly rooms. Not worth the price no matter how cheap.

Old, run-down hotel
I was greatly impressed with the location and check-in process. But the hotel itself is very run-down and felt unsafe for single travelers. A couple of time, I found myself in abandon hallways and conference rooms. My room looked out onto fire escapes and heating vents. There were exposed wires and pipes in my room. I could tell that at one time this had been a grand hotel, but no more.

Wonder
The worst hotel ever !
The Congress Plaza Hotel, My room number wasn't clearly marked, they was a fire escape sign right above my room door I assumed that was the doorway to the fire escape. The room was very dated, broken head board, holes in the cieling the desk drawer didn't open are close because they were bented, the window view was the fire escaped and the drapery won't closed, I called the front desk the have someone fix this issue, I waited for a half an hour and went down stairs to speak with someone directly, (someone from the service department told the front desk person they fixed the issuse a while ago) I insisted that no one was been to my room, 15 mins lately a service guy came by. The vendening machine took my $1.75 for a can soda. Later I with down stairs to bar to wind down, after a bit I wanted to know if the hotel had a mircowave, so I was about to walk across the hall to the front desk, when I fell off the landing from one of the bar's enter way. The next morning I had a luke warm shower.
