We went to Chicago for a weekend getaway. The hotel's location and price were unbeatable. However, you get what you pay for... If you want anything else (e.g. Internet, etc.), you have to pay extra. They never bothered to tell us their employees were on strike. So, when we got there, we had to cross their picket line. Something I absolutely HATE to do. Apparently, they don't allow their employees to unionize! I would not have booked this hotel if I had known beforehand.

OK
This hotel has seen better days, but offered a good location for us as it was close to the McCormick Place convention site and public transport links. Service could be better. Our room was not made up one day despite being out all day and having the "make up this room" placard displayed. They did come around after 4 pm, just after we returned. Housekeep staff "no habla". The hotel's barber, [...], is very good.

Chicago learning experience
The staff was very nice and easy to deal with. The television was not working and it took 2 notifications to get it fixed. The tub/shower had soap scum on the bottom.

You should know...
Before you book you should know ... The two star rating is not overrated... The room I got was near the vending machines [...] with a more than old AC system from which was emanating a weird smell. Overall the location was great, but the room and the hotel were aging and in need of a makeover. When I say the location was great, I mean right next to the train stations... Which was also understandably a drawback in term of noise, although I managed to sleep without earplugs. Anyway, if you're not afraid of aging buildings and their accompanying smell/minor degradations.

Not Cool Enough
Very hot in Chicago and roon air did not work. Complained and it never got better. Bar open limited hours and only one restaurant open. Good location but this hotel needs renovation.

Great location,
Good location Great for overnight. We had no hot water when we went to go out for our evening. Was fixed later. Price was right compared to others, and for one night, it was okay.

It fit what I needed
The hotel looked too "grand" and too big not to have a swimming pool. The vending machines on the ground floor were all out of order. The housekeeper tried to come in our room three times, starting very early the first morning. So I decided to put the do not disturb sign up. The housekeeping also slammed doors early in the morning, every morning. Great view of the fountain across the street. It costs $12 to purchase wireless internet for 24 hrs! Bathroom door was stuck. This hotel is only recommended for a place to crash for the night. It was a nice place to sleep but not for the money it costs.

Congress Hotel
It was great for the location to Lollapalooza 2010. Staff were very nice but seemed over worked. The hotel could use a MAJOR overhaul! My friend got bed bug bites, yuck! The menu for room service was poor to say the least and super expensive for what you got. Pretty sure we will not stay there next year for Lollapalooza!
