Perfect Location
I've stayed twice at this hotel because the location is perfect. Close to everything. The staff was great as well. I read reviews that talked about the picketing outside the hotel but I just think it adds color to the experience of being in another city.

Congress Plaza - October 2012
Stayed at the Congress Plaza when in town for a football game. The hotel was perfect for what we were looking for. Location is right on Michigan avenue. Close to downtown, Navy Pier, Soldier Field. We walked everywhere all weekend and never needed a car or taxi. Rooms were old but very clean and comfortable. I am planning to go back in the spring and will definitely be staying here again. Great value and great location.

Older hotel, showing its wear
This hotel is in a great location, directly across from Grant Park and just south of the Chicago Art Institute. From this location it is about a 1 mile walk north to the heart of the Magnificent Mile on Michigan Ave and about the same distance south to the Field Museum. The theatre district and more great shopping is directly behind and north of the hotel on State Street. The Congress Plaza Hotel is in need of some updating. It was clean and convenient but not really comfortable or welcoming. Hallways and lobby are a bit dingy. In the rooms the wallpaper, furniture, drapery, carpet.... all very old and need to be updated. Double beds were a bit too soft. Towels were clean but smelled strongly of disinfectant. This hotel was grand in its day and I hope it is returned to that state in the future. It has 'great bones' and great location.... but in its present state is very tired looking.

Great family getaway
This hotel is perfect for us when visiting family in Chicago. Location is wonderful, staff is very friendly and helpful, and our room was great. It is very clean and the staff work hard for their guests.

Comfort is lacking...
The location and staff at this hotel are very good, but the hotel itself is quite old and the room furnishings leave a lot to be desired. Our room was stiflingly hot and there was no way for us to control the temperature. It also smelled like exhaust or some sort of industrial chemical. For the money, we will be looking for a different hotel next visit to Chicago.

Congress great for exploring Chicago
Took a trip to Chicago to look at Downtown Graduate School programs for daughter. Hotel is perfectly located for walking to lots of fun tourist destinations. Only issue is room had musty/moldy smell and 12th floor windows too small for fire escape and to air room. I personally had some nostalgia to stay becuase my Medical School convocation held in Grand Ballroom in 1984.

Great for the price !
I went to Chicago on a business trip. Chose the hotel because of the pricing. It's location was perfect. Walking distance from a lot of fun & enjoyable places. The place is old & is in need of renovations but for the price the place was great. I was only in the room when I needed to go to sleep. I would definitely stay at this hotel again !

great location, old hotel that needs upgrading
dark, old hotel. Ugly, cheap looking lobby. Too bad that a great old hotel with so much history is not taken care of and upgraded. But, you can't beat the location and view of the lake. The room was very clean with a good bed
