Great location and thats about it!
Our tv broke our second day there and it was never fixed. The 1st room they moved us into smelled like paint but they switched our rooms immediately. It is a great location.

Good location - needs clean up
The Congress Plaza Hotel has an excellent location and a very courteous staff. The room was basically clean, but definitely needs sprucing up. Everything looked shabby and the heating/air conditioning unit leaked so that the carpet underneath it was soaked. However, the one point which was very difficult for us was the tub/shower. I asked and then confirmed with the hotel twice before we arrived to have a room with a walk in shower. This was important because my mother has arthritis in both knees and it is extremely hard for her to step over the rim of a tub. When we arrived, we were told that the hotel didn't have any rooms with stall showers, not even their handicapped rooms, which were not available in any case. Unfortunately, even though the stafff tried to be helpful, it would have been better to be truthful when I called. I would have booked a different hotel.

The Chicago Firehouse restaurant. A short, lovely walk down South Michigan. Truly a wonderful experience for dinner and the food was terrific. The atmosphere was classic steakhouse and the service was perfect.

Poor value for money
Our room was spacious, but the curtains wouldn't close - we were on the third floor, and the street lights illuminated the room all night. The toilet continuously flushed until we managed to take off the top of the cistern and adjust, and then it only malfunctioned once more. The shower water flooded the floor of the bathroom, so much so you had to mop it up with the towel and wring it out many times to reduce the water - very dangerous. We only discovered the curtains wouldn't close when we went to bed - so my then too late to complain and change rooms, same with shower etc. I guess some rooms are a bit old and tired. Left a note at the desk when checking out, but wasn't asked if we had any complaints. The location was great - so close to the City - you could walk everywhere, and the Millenium Park was amazing, and it commenced just across the road.

This is an amazing place with beautiful gardens, sculptures, and a performing arts centre. Along the Avenue from town to Hotel are lots of elegant eating houses, and they stay open late at night.

Old Hotel, Old Rooms...
When I walked into the room I was overcome by a musty smell. It was like walking into an older persons home. I understand that the hotel is old, but the room was a little disappointing. As for location, it worked out great for what I came for. The shower had excellent water pressure, if you care to know. Don't bring your car, the parking is very expensive.

Hotel under construction
We were put in the Buckingham Wing, which is under construction. There is a lot of noise, workers and dust here. All in all, though, the location of the hotel is great and the rest of the hotel seemed nice.

Could have been worse'
For the amount of money I paid I expected it to be cleaner. I only go to Chicago once a year for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walk and expect more for my money. Will not do that again. The hotel has quite a history to it and it shows. Definitely could use some updates. Not sure I will use your services again.

Had an excellent view from the 9th floor but had to pay for it. Grant Park was across the street and the fireworks from Navy Pier was awesome. First time my sister had been to Chicago. The view overlooking Michicgan Avenue was good.

Bad timing
There was a strike of some of the workers of the hotel while we were there. We didn't have soap or shampoo or new towels the last night and no new towels the second night.

OK if just passing through town
The Congress Hotel was not at all what I expected. The hotel was very old and the room was small. The bathroom needed some ceiling work as well. Another disappointment was housekeeping knocking on the door right at 8AM. I was woken up by the outrageous knocks and had to open the door to tell them No, thank you. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff is friendly and the location was directly across the street from the event I was attending.

Don't stay here if you smoke !
When we checked in, we were given a beautiful suite. Found out it was non-smoking. Had to move to the OLDEST part of the hotel. Very small, dreary room. Air conditioning barely worked. Could not be fixed. Also, no refrigerator in room as the suite had. Had to go down one flight to get ice. No rate reduction, although they did give us free breakfast for 4 days. Great location. Staff was very nice. Restaurant for dinner too expensive for the quality of meals.

vERY GOOD LOCATION, VERY BAD MAINTENANCE
The Congress Plaza Hotel at Grand Park Chicago has a veru good location but as it is an old building it is very bad maintened. The builfing is nice but it looks old and untidy. Also the hotel doesnt cae for enviroment as for example if you want to have hot water you have to leave the water running for more than 10 minutes, I think you can get other opions for the same price.
