Last Resort
When I got there to check in, 4 hours after 'check-in time', my room still had not been cleaned. After an hour, that had been taken care of. But by that time, I was late for work......having to 'log' in to work as soon as I arrived, I was not able to have an acceptable internet connection.

Great Hotel....rip off parking
Wonderful hotel.....will go back long as I don't need a car and only have to work downtown. Parking fees of $42 per night are outrageous taking away the value we felt we got with the hotel.

Acceptable accommodations.
The kitchen, bedroom and bath were fine, but nothing out of the ordinary. The worst thing is the sofa sleeper. My son accompanied me on this trip and had to sleep on a thin mattress and felt the mechanism with every move he made. He thought it was the worst thing that he ever slept on. The decor is very dated and the duvet cover in the bedroom is a horrible polyester fabric, but it is lined with cotton and the sheets and towels are a very nice quality. The breakfast buffet was pretty good. They served eggs, sausage, potatoes, yogurt, fruit, bagels, muffins, sweet rolls, oatmeal, juices and coffee. Definitely enough to get you through the morning and well into the afternoon. The location of the hotel is very good. You can walk to Rush St., Michigan Avenue, Oak Street, the river, and Millennium Park.

Sightseeing tip:
Long walk from hotel
Take one of the architectural river cruises. It is a great way to view some wonderful examples of modern buildings and historical ones. We took the Shoreline cruise which is only an hour and our guide was informative and very funny. He probably does this during the day and works at Second City at night.

Good stay, only few issues
Homewood Suites Downtown Chicago was in a fantastic location. Only issue with location is that it is located on one of the streets (Grand Ave)that does not have direct access to Michigan Avenue. You have to go through Nordstroms or below street access (not exactly pretty) if you are coming right from Mich Ave. Our room was nice and spacious. They let us check in early, no begging needed. Staff was very helpful. It has a kitchenette, but our first room was missing a few things (like only had one bowl). We were OK for one night, then someone in adjacent room decided to smoke on non-smoking floor. We called desk to tell them to cut it out (like that works!). We asked to be moved for our final day and a half, and we got moved to a similar room, but much better view(and it had all its bowls!). Pool area was nice, with gorgeous view of the city. I would definitely stay here again. Sushi place located in same building is amazing, think it was called OYSY.

Terrific Staff
Older hotel so things are a little cramped in the rooms. The staff at the front door and at the front desk were very friendly. Right in the middle of the action downtown. Would recommend at a reasonable price.

Great Service, Decent Room
Overall, the staff was very friendly and helpful. They seemed very cheerful, especially downstairs. There would only be two complaints I have. One being that there are only two elevators to take you upstairs. The lobby is located on the 6th floor so everyone checking in at 4, means that those elevators are super busy, and there aren't any stairs to take you up. It's not that bad after checking in, but that part is just a hassle. The only other complaint I would have is the showers, the shower we had was no tub of any kind, it was sort of like gym locker showers. Except, the floor didn't curve in, so when showering, the whole floor got soaked in the bathroom. The rest of the room was great though, decent sized, nice kitchen, provide silverware, etc. It's good for a short stay, the breakfast is decent just a little small. Good for the price.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
If you're looking for cheap fast food, you're best bet is going to be to head away from magnificent mile. Either head the opposite way about two blocks and there is a portillos which is really good, or head towards magnificent mile, pass it, and you'll run into many small restaurants that won't be as expensive. Try to go to dinner before 5 or after 7 because the lines can get long places.

Little Vacation
We had a great experience at Homewood Suites. Friendly staff, very good location, etc. Great price through Orbitz. We were able to check in early. We extended our stay while we were there and the Hotel gave us the discounted price that we payed through Orbitz! We accidently left some clothes behind and the hotel is shipping them to us! Overal Great experience.
