Boutique luxury in the heart of the Gold Coast
In Chicago, the rule for downtown real estate is the closer to Lake Michigan, the more posh the address. Enter the Raffaello Hotel, a four-star hotel just steps from the lake and Magnificent Mile with a Michelin-rated chef, in-room spa services, executive suites and a 24-hour business center. Blending old-world aesthetics with modern conveniences, the hotel manages luxury and intimacy while being near the downtown hub. Stepping into the vintage building just off the tourist drag, guests are more likely to feel like Gold Coast residents than tourists. Raffaello Hotel offers Drumbar, a rooftop speakeasy-style inside lounge and outdoor garden terrace, found in the 18th floor.
Highlights
- Walk to the Magnificent Mile
- Next to the John Hancock Center
- Boutique hotel with a 24-hour business center and rooftop sundeck
- Upscale Italian fare at Pelago
- Sanctuary fitness center with Precor fitness equipment
Rooms
Staying in this vintage building poses several advantages. The Raffaello Hotel offers rooms with high ceilings and architectural details for a unique, high-class vintage stay. Butterscotch-hued bedding and drapes match the walls, while high ceilings --painted stark white--stun with their beam construction. All rooms feature rainfall showerheads, Gilchrest and Soames amenities, 32-inch LCD TV, iHome and iPod players and 340-count linens. Rooms, which come in king, double double and suite versions are hard-wire and Wi-Fi enabled.
Features
Any Chicagoan will encourage a newcomer to put dining and an architectural experience on the itinerary. At the Raffaello Hotel, both needs are satisfied thanks to Pelago, the upscale Italian seafood restaurant and the rooftop garden, which is open from late spring to late fall. From the sundeck, guests can take in glorious views of the skyline, including Navy Pier and the next door neighbor: the John Hancock Center.

We liked the location to Lake Michigan and were impressed by the number of people running, biking, swimming. The parking is awful as you need to pay an additional fee at a separate lot. Raffello's is a smaller hotel that has been updated to accomodate. Prices for amenities in the room are outrageous, however, there was a small refrigerator and microwave oven. Shower was terrific!

Comfy beds
We are a family of four, two teenage kids. Two double beds were rough, but the beds were surprisingly comfortable. The room was fairly large. Elevators were SMALL and hot, lobby was hot and our room with the air cranked never really cooled down. We walked everywhere and looked forward to relaxing in a nice cool room, but that really was not the case. We love Chicago and the hotel was in a great location. It was cool to see the Hancock bldg right out our window. Staff did not speak much English. Never really got our questions answered because the staff did not understand our question. Overall - it is what I expect in Chicago, small & expensive. We are used to resort vacationing, so it was different for us.

clean room. quiet hotel.
was in Chicago with my 22 year old and a 16 year old to see the U2 concert. Hotel was clean and in a quiet location. There were limited amenities. very small lobby. A very nice looking Italian resturant was attached to the hotel, but we did not eat there. Wireless internet was $9.95 for 24 hours and only allowed for one computer to log on. If there were multiple guests, this would require multiple charges. Staff seemed competent if not overly friendly. In all honesty, we stayed at the Avenue Hotel on Ontario(?) street last time, and i preferred that location better. Avenue was a little closer to subway, had a pool, and a nice little pub in the lobby.

Excellent Hotel and Location
We had a wonderful stay. This was a great refurbished hotel in a nice area of town with many attractions and restaurants nearby. I suggest the "Go Chicago" card for everyone in the family and with a CTA ticket, you can go everywhere and see it all. We were there 5 days and never ran out of things to do.
