Landmark in the Loop near attractions and shopping
It's only fitting that this historic hotel is just a few blocks from Jewelers Row given its name and former purpose. In the 1890s, its tenants worked in the jewelry and silver trade. Today, landmark elements -- a cast iron staircase, terra cotta touches -- give the Silversmith Hotel Chicago a unique architectural identity. Ideally situated near the Magnificent Mile and Millennium Park, the Silversmith Hotel Chicago appeals to budget-minded travelers seeking quick access to Chicago's most popular attractions.Highlights
- One block to the Magnificent Mile, Millennium Park and State Street shopping
- 24-hour fitness center
- Free high-speed Internet access throughout the hotel
- Dining at Ada's Deli & Restaurant and cocktails at the 14 Karat Lounge
- Historic, independent hotel with Arts and Crafts style
Rooms
Rooms and suites at the Silversmith Hotel Chicago serve their purpose, providing comfortable beds and a place to freshen up in between sightseeing excursions. The hotel’s 12-foot ceilings add dimension, while 10-foot picture windows view the city and the El. Wood headboards, desks and Prairie-style lamps complete the casual look. Complimentary wireless Internet access is available throughout the property.

Chicago weekend getaway
Wonderful experience, just 1-2 blocks from Bank of America Theatre to see Book of Mormon, and just a block from Chicago Institute of Art to see the Picasso visit. Michigan Ave shopping filled in the rest. Purple Pig was wonderful for tapas, and Trattoria 10 was a great late evening dining experience. Silversmith Hotel was perfect location, clean, attractive, very friendly and helpful staff.

Convenient location
We booked the hotel because of its location in the Loop. We flew into Midway and took the Orange Line directly to the front door of the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the room was clean and of reasonable size. The hotel is within an easy walk to the museums and downtown theatres.

Beautiful Piece of Chicago History for a Great Price
My husband and I just returned from a two night, three day stay at the Silversmith Hotel in Chicago, and we loved it! The hotel was beautiful inside and out, with an exquisite historic touch, especially in the large and comfortable lobby decorated with old time pieces and wooden floors. While our room was on the small side for a deluxe queen, it was very clean, lovely, and comfortable. ' One warning for future guests is that the hotel, like many hotels in downtown Chicago, is right next to an L train overpass. The train went by our window all day and night. But it wasn't terribly loud, and we actually liked the sound of it while we drifted off to sleep. Something to be aware of. The staff was very friendly and helpful and gave us good advice about what to see, do, and eat while visiting the Windy City. I would have preferred this hotel to have more amenities, especially a hot breakfast, but I did a lot of research on the hotels in downtown Chicago, and very few of them offer the amenities of a standard chain hotel. Instead of these standard amenities, you get a reasonably priced stay at a hotel with lots of unique charm and character, in a safe, vibrant part of Chicago that includes great museums and attractions within easy walking distance.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
Giordanos! It's just a short walk from the Silversmith, and the hotel staff can give you directions. If you want mouth-watering delicious Chicago stuffed pizza--flaky crust, gooey cheese, the works--this is the place to go! It is world- famous. Expect to pay $20 to $25 for a small pizza, which is definitely sufficient for 2 people. We hadn't eaten since breakfast, and we'd been walking through a museum all day, and we still had leftover pizza after getting a small one for dinner.

Great time
The Silversmith Hotel is perfectly located right in downtown Chicago. It's small, so the views from the rooms are not great, but that was not a top concern for us. We could walk everywhere we wanted to go - shopping, the beach, the parks, the museums - all of the top spots are easily walkable. The staff was very nice, the room was always clean, and it was very quiet - we were not on the train side of the hotel though, so that could make a difference.

Do the City Pass for all the site seeing spots - if possible, order your pass before you go just to save time in line. Then once you are there, the time saved not waiting in lines is priceless, not to mention the price savings in admissions.
