Charming old world
My greatest issue at this hotel was that the WI-FI did not work for me when I had to upload my Illinois bar exam. Fortunately the helpful concierge and directed me to the nearest Starbucks the night before and I was able to upload there (otherwise a zero for all my efforts!) The very helpful concierge also directed me (and all the other bar students, I think, to a lovely nearby grocery with fabulous food. I depended on it for most of my meals. However, the garbage was not cleaned out of my wastebasket while I was there. This may have been because I had the do not disturb sign on while studying and forgot to take it off during the day. Towels were a bit limp. Bathroom was otherwise lovely. Room was very somber, almost funereal, but mercifully quiet (facing a wall). Could hear foghorns at night - lovely. The FFC gym is phenomenal, multi-layered complex (not restful, but extremely well equipped). The neighborhood is fabulous, blocks from Michigan Ave and a BEACH (!!!!) Also enjoyed a little nearby park where Russians liked to congregate (I used to teach Russian. The young German woman at check-in and out was fabulous - efficient, courteous to a fault. Charming location.

Wonderful ambiance
The Talbott Hotel offered a very relaxed environment with nice quiet rooms and a great location. The only problem was that the room we were given had been smoked in and smelled of smoke. The hotel offered us a different room (most would offer a preferred upgrade) but it was on the second floor with a meeting room next door which was very loud, so we went back to the original room. They did offer to spray the room. I expected to get an upgrade or a credit and received neither. The room was quiet and the bathroom was ample, including an exhaust fan, which I like.

Nice for short stay
The hotel staff is very friendly and you will get to know them all because the hotel is so small. So if you are a little sketched out by this kind of thing be warned. However... nice place, nice location, expensive parking (par for the course in Chi-Town)

Great Location for the cost
The Talbott Hotel was a great fit for us for our weekend Michigan avenue excursion. It is located in the middle of everything 2 blocks from the John Hancock Building. Every Employee we had the pleasure of meeting was very helpful and professional, while being very friendly. The concierge (as well as other members of the staff) gave us wonderful dining and entertainment suggestions and took care of our reservations for us on the spot. At one of our dinners, the concierge bought my fiancee and I each a glass of champaign to start our night. We thought that was very thoughtful and a great touch. The room was very nice but a little on the small side and I never did find an ice machine but for the two of us for a comfortable, cozy, place to sleep it was perfect.

Avoid Room Service
The room is very elegantly appointed, the facilities were fine, and the staff was professional and friendly. The bathroom and the bed were both excellent. That being said...every time the heater cut out there was a metallic grinding sound that would wake me out of a sound sleep. Luckily the building is so well made, I could just turn the furnace way down and it almost never came on and I was still comfortable. Room service was a big disappointment. The food was not very good and my lasagna had a piece of plastic underneath it on the plate that had clearly been forgotten after microwaving. TERRIBLY loud during the day, but no noise at all at night.

Exquisitely unique hotel
It was not what I expected of the hotel since it was not directly on Michigan Ave. I enjoyed the excellent service, from the moment I walked thru the door to the time we checked out. I would recommend this hotel to everyone I know who is visiting Chicago and want to stay downtown; its 1 blk from Michigan Ave so it's in the middle of everything from shopping, salons to restaurants. Our stay here was better than the previous year trip when my family and I stayed at the Westin on Michigan Ave. and it was not what I expected being a hotel on the Ave. I really appreciated the service I received at the Talbott and that is the hotel of choice for every visit to Chicago.

Long walk from hotel
If you don't mind walking, you can get to all the places for dining out, they are all less than 1 mile and the hotel has someone who is there to assist with navigating thru downtown, he will show you on the map and guide you from there with precise directions...it's awesome! There is a restaurant in the hotel as well.

Lovely boutique hotel
A very nice hotel in a great area. Very convenient to the restaurants on Rush St and the shopping on Michigan Ave. Very close to the Water Tower landmark, and easy to get to Millenium Park, the Art Institute and the Navy Pier. Note that there is construction adjacent and in back of the hotel. It's almost complete. Request a room facing Delaware to get away from the construction noise. Rooms are fabulous--very roomy with elegant furniture, flat screen TV with plenty of digital channels, marble bathroom with double sinks and a huge counter.Staff is very friendly and knowledgable.
