Area description
Welcome to Grand Rapids... a city that combines urban sophistication with small-town warmth. Grand Rapids is Michigan's second largest city. With more than one million residents in the metro area, it offers all the big-city amenities and excitement you can imagine. Yet it's also a region of abundant natural wonders, where outdoor recreation is a year-round pursuit. And it's all served up with a heaping helping of small-town friendliness, safety and affordability. Downtown is clean, safe and oh-so-walkable – there are more than 75 hotels, restaurants, museums, and sports and entertainment venues within a five-minute walk of each other. Some of Grand Rapids' other unique attractions are less than a ten-minute drive away: Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park (one of the Midwest's most popular tourist spots); John Ball Zoo (one of the nation's oldest urban zoos); and Woodland Mall and Rivertown Crossings (two of Michigan's largest indoor malls).

Girls Night Gone Bad

I understand that Grand Rapids was under a lot of water when I went but I booked my hotel room a month in advance, paid good money, and drove a long way and when I got there the room wasn't ready and we got a tiny room with one king size bed. There was hardly any room for us to get ready and they "gave us" a complementary roll away bed that barely fit in the room. They were nice and gave us free valet parking and $50 on a gift card but we had to use the card there so they still profited from that.

Lied about rates

Our building flooded and they repeatedly assured us that our one-night stay would be free of charge. I asked them to confirm this several times before handing over my debit card. Then they changed their minds overnight and charged us for a stay, and refused to refund or fix the situation when we called them. Horrible service and bad business practice. The room itself was average quality but our floor had a lot of really obnoxious guests from some convention.

TOO MUCH FOR TOO LITTLE :(

I had heard rave reviews about the Amway, granted i had paid for one of the most basic rooms. Little did I know that it came with NOTHING! I mean NOTHING! no food, no drinks, no breakfast! For a fivestar their most basic room is extremely underwhelming! Pillows were uncomfortable, my husband hated the mattress so obviously we slept very little. Im sorry but i can pay the same price for a nicer room in a bigger city! This was dissapointing and a waste of time!

Okay

This is a grand facility. The hotel room is clean but ordinary. Indistinguishable from any hotel room at half the money.

Amway Stay

The room had seen better days. The noise from the A/C unit, and the hall, was loud. the A/C unit kicking on was enough to wake me up several times.

Great hotel, mediocre service

Hotel is beautiful, however my experience with checking-in was atrocious. They couldn't find the reservation I had just made, took over 30 minutes of phone calls to make it happen. The first desk employee was quite rude, didn't seem to really care that they couldn't find the reservation-gave me a phone number to call and to step aside. Thanks for the assistance!!

Great room, even better service!

GR is a weekend getaway favorite of mine, this was my first stay at Amway after visiting JW Marriott a few times. Both are excellent, I'd say Amway has a little better service from staff, and rooms are a bit bigger. Rooms and beds at JW might be a bit nicer, however.
