Once-historic bank becomes modern Minneapolis luxury
The downtown Westin Minneapolis is a faithful blend of historic significance and modern luxury. Transformed from the Farmers & Mechanics Bank, this Tony four-star hotel retains the original World War II era woodwork, marble staircase and vaulted lobby. Guest rooms are equipped with modern amenities like MP3 players, flat-screen TVs and Internet access (fees apply). Following adventure on the town, the end-of-day rewards here are plenty: an indoor pool cloaked in midnight blue, a dimly lit cocktail lounge and a savory dish or decadent treat at B.A.N.K.
Highlights
- The penthouse patio boasts panoramic views of the city
- Original bank vault converted into a wine cellar at B.A.N.K.
- Partake in a true "no interruption" function in the hotel's vault-secured meeting room
- Walking distance to Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis Convention Center, Metrodome, Target Center and Hennepin Theatre District

Rooms at the Westin come complete for business travelers with a spacious work desk, mesh swivel chair and chaise lounge. Request an upgrade for a city or courtyard views or a private balcony.

City View Room does not include an actual city view
We upgraded to a city view, but when checking into our room, we only had a view of the building next door, which was less than 10 feet from our window. When we inquired about not having a view from our window, the hotel management said that in fact we had a limited city view. We could not see the sky, the street, or any other building except the mirrored building 10 feet from our window. This, in our opinion, is not an view at all. Shame on you Westin, for trying to sell rooms listed as City View, when there is no view at all!

Great Hotel - One Drawback
This hotel and staff were terrific. However, surprised that on a Friday night the bar closed early (maybe 10 PM). Came back for a "nightcap" only to find it dark and empty and had to resort to going elsewhere. Amenities, cleanliness, etc. top notch. Highly recommended.

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Get a map of the skywalk system for the downtown area. Gives you a list of shops, restaurants, etc. Particularly useful when the weather is inclement. So much is within a 5-10 minute walking distance.

Didn't get what we paid for
When we purchased a room at this hotel we paid the price for a "city view" in contrast to "no view." The room they gave us had "no view" and when we asked for a room change - they said that what you specify online is not necessarily the type of room you will get. They did move us to a smaller room with a view, but were not very nice about it. Later we stayed at the Hyatt and had a MUCH better experience.

Great downtown location
If you are looking to enjoy downtown Minneapolis and want a great hotel with good value, Westin is a great option. My wife (who is 7 months pregnant) were able to walk to the Twins game, the Warehouse district and across the bridge to the Northwest side of town to try some small, local restaurants. It is 2 blocks away from the tram and Nicolet mall. Very convenient and a pretty swanky place for the price.

Excellent downtown location, not great for after partying
I stayed here for my 21st birthday so I wouldn't have to worry about finding a way home after bar hopping. Was slightly annoyed that our door got knocked on to keep quiet at 8pm as well as 2am when we only had 4 people in the room. Clearly was the guy in the room next to us being crabby but maybe the hotel could have done a better job sound proofing. Overall a good stay though. My room was very clean, shower had good water pressure, but the beds weren't the comfiest. The double size beds seemed small and the duvets, while pleasing to the eye, were much too heavy and warm to sleep under comfortably.

Very enjoyable and relaxing. I wish I had known about the plethora of parking in MN; I would have saved a lot on valet. But the service was great. I would stay there again.

great renovation and location hotel
This Westin is in a restored bank building and is a very nice location. I thought that the room was a bit warm and the a/c was seemingly turned off for the winter. Nice room otherwise, however.

Perfect location. Beautiful. Clean!
Minneapolis is my home town but 5 years ago my family and I moved up north. So I am used to living in my city or staying with friends when I visit. I had a writer's conference and decided to have a full city experience...like a tourist...so I chose to stay in a hotel. The Westin is in the previous Norwest Bank building. It is beautiful architecture. A grand and interesting conversion. We parked in the ramp across the street (week-end rate 4pm-7am is $5). Entrance valet was available for $35. Rooms were modern and clean. Breakfast buffet was delicious, but $12.95. Coffee and tea pods in room were Starbucks and Tazo :) Location is perfect for downtown Minneapolis connected to the skyway. We are already wondering when we can go back!
