Back inside, the 45,000 square-foot-casino draws gamers to its popular slot and video poker machines, table games, race and sports book and poker room. Not bad - Not exceptional
Took over 1/2 hour to recieve bags in room from valet parking after check in. No coffee in room and closest available way across hotel. We became ill from some type of bug and requested laundry bags for soiled linen and towels from housekeeping, and it took over an hour for them to get them to us,and that after a second call.

service declined
Did not compare to our first time at this hotel. One clerk checking in people at the front desk. Ignored in one of the restaurants for twenty minutes while they were slow. However, the other reataurant (Italian) was superior in both service and food. Stayed at the new rush tower. Our room was on the freemont street side and had trouble sleeping due to the music. If we returned we would request a quiet room. The hotel itself is excellent. Service however appears to have taken a dive. We spent our last two nights at the Statosphere and will in all liklihood skip the nuggte next year and return to the Statosphere

The New Rush Tower
The Rush Tower is much better than the older towers but still lacks in a few areas. They really need to put the coffee pot back in the room. I can't handle spending $10 for a cup of coffee.

best of downtown but not best of vegas
We had to wait over 20 minutes to check in - there was only one person working the desk. There were two people working check-out. It didn't give us a good first impression. There was no information desk so we found it difficult to get oriented. They did want to sell you show tickets and get you gambling. We didn't eat at any of the restaurants but they seemed overpriced. The pool was nice but closed due to high winds, which was annoying. When open, it was so packed that it was hard to find a place to sit. This hotel has very crowded lobby and walkways and not recommended for families with young children (they'll get run over!) Our housekeeper asked if we needed our room cleaned - I took pity on her and said no. After the fact, I think we didn't get the service that we paid for. It was my first time to Vegas and I think that downtown is really rundown and unattractive. I'd recommend staying in another area.

I'd recommend taking the ACE bus to the strip instead of taking a cab. The former takes about 20-30 minutes and the latter costs about $20. YOu can get a 24 hour bus pass for $7/person.

Like to wait in Line?
6PM arrival at the hotel and greeted by a line of roughly 30 people at the registration desk. Normally should go quickly, but the hotel has only 4 working the front desk. You would think common sense would dictate to get your guests checkin ASAP so that they can drink, eat and especially gamble. Very disappointed having to spend an hour just to check in.

Not bad at all, just nothing spectacular
Really not a bad hotel at all, rooms were clean, bed was comfy, staff was nice, and had no problems at all. Parking was nice because valet was free as a hotel guest! The neighborhood around downtown LV was a little sketch, but once you get into Fremont St, it wasn't too bad. But as a 4-star hotel, I guess I was expecting more. We stayed at MGM the first couple of nights, and then this one friday night. There IS a difference. The rooms seemed vintaged, like it was decorated in the 60s :(, wasn't a fan. The bathroom was small and we had a small problem with the plumbing. We only stayed one night, but when we took a shower, the water piled up because it wouldn't go down the drain. The toilet also had low pressure and would take about 5 minutes per cycle. I would probably stay here again, but wouldn't be my top choice.

I would recommend that fellow travelers rent a car. Although shuttle services are offered, it is much more convenient to rent a car. Parking is free at the Golden Nugget for guest, as well as other hotels on the strip. With a rental car it's easier to travel to shopping and attractions like the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead. Also, shop around for gasoline. Prices can vary by as much as 20 cents around the corner from each other.
