Good value

If you can get a good price for this hotel, it's a very good value. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The location is convenient. My room was a little small but it worked our well for a short business trip.

Location pro and con

Got very low rate-Sun night in Jan. 28th St between 6th and 7th, 5 min walk from Penn Sta, 1 block from good subway line. But totally dead area, especially at night. Middle of wholesale flower district. Safe but only nearby acceptable restaurants open later are two on 7th Av, pub-type atmosphere. If you want NYC excitement and options just outside hotel, not a good choice. But besides transport access, location also good for quieter sleeping. Room size (I had 2 Q beds) large for NY, pretty new and nicely appointed-big counter in bathroom. Rooms have small frig and mircowave and lobby sells a few things to prepare in room. Light could be better for reading. Linens nice quality. Biggest complaint, like for growing number of NY properties, no closet but instead small armoire with low rod, so coats and slacks drag on bottom. Have to keep shoes, luggage etc out in room. Small but nicely equipped exercise room. Unlike many properties in this category, no free breakfast. Small breakfast-only lobby restaurant open in mornings in you want to buy there-otherwise McDonalds on corner. Would stay again if price low enough. Did not need WIFI so cannot comment.

Close to tourist spots, clean, tidy and very welcoming and friendly staff

The neighbourhood is not great - building next door being refurbished and there are building works at the end of the block. The whole street is drab and run down and looks like it needs a good jet wash. I wasn't optimistic about the hotel being great, but never judge a book by its cover, as they say. The Staff were great, really friendly and welcoming. I asked for a quiet room and we were given room 217, which was 2nd floor back. Room was OK but lighting was poor and with the furniture being dark wood, it was a bit dingy. Ample storage, tea/coffee, iron and ironing board, microwave, fridge and good t.v. hairdryer in bathroom. I found the bed very comfortable but my husband didn't until we saw a notice on the reception desk advising that the mattress was self adjusting. Ample hot water and good water pressure on shower. Only provided with paper cups in bathroom and on the tea/coffee tray. Free WiFi was a bonus. Breakfast was $17.95 each but choice was great. Waiting staff very friendly. One day I only had toast, juice and tea and was only charged $2 as I hadn't used the buffet. Free coffee on the bar at breakfast and also in lobby. Small bar area - no draught beer, only bottled drinks. Not very relaxing as only bar stools. No evening restaurant but plenty of places to eat elsewhere. The hotel was very clean and tidy and in good decorative order and was easy walk to Times Square and other tourist spots. It was extremely popular and there were people arriving every day we were there. There is a large business centre which we used to check in on line and print off our boarding cards. There is a very small lounge type seating area but it only had about 4 chairs. In summary the hotel was great for us as tourists who spent all day and most of the evening out and only returned to sleep, but would have felt claustrophobic if bad weather prevented us going out. I am well travelled and have stayed in many hotels so my comments are based on comparisons of those and personal experience.

Nice location. amazing price

On the train to NYC found out I was going to be stranded late at night. I was able to get a reservation at a great price close to Penn Station. Walking distance. Front desk was not very welcoming. I travel for work several times a month across the US and stay in higher end hotels. I am use to being greeted with some degree of animation on check-in. Maybe it was my jeans, sweatshirt and backpack (after all I did not expect to be stranded). I specifically stated non smoking in the preferences. NYC is probably the only major city I have not stayed in. I didn't know hotels still had smoking rooms until I started sneezing, my head started pounding, my eyes started watering. I then noticed the ash tray (I haven't seen one of those in years). I called down to the front desk. She seemed a little put out but readily changed my room to nonsmoking. The security associate that came up to give me the .key and show me the new room was extremely nice and professional. Smooth sailing after that. The front desk was no friendlier on morning check out. But I got a good night's rest. Who cares about the front desk.. The location was great. Flower shops, places to eat. Very close to subway, train station. everything! Yes. I would stay again particularly for the price and incredible location. The room was major small but I guess that's New York and who hangs out in a hotel room in New York?

My daughter and I were in NY City for just a long weekend to check out some colleges. The staff at the Hilton Garden Inn were superbly friendly and helpful with suggestions, directions and navigating the subway. The location was perfect and we were able to walk to most of our destinations while exploring the city. I would definitely recommend the Hilton Garden Inn and would stay there again.

Work and Sight Seeing in NYC

We didn't spend a lot of time in the room as we were busy enjoying NYC. It did the job, it was clean and the staff were really helpful. We had 4 in our room so it was a bit tight, we did have to ask for extra towels, pillows and glasses as they had only catered for 3 but this was sorted out easily. We stayed on the 20 floor and had no problem with the city noise, walking through the flower district every morning was lovely. If you looking for a reasonably priced hotel near the subway this is perfect. (Bar was a bit pricey though and shut at 11pm for those who like a late drink!)
