Hotel 31

The hotel room was small but adequate. If you need to be on the East side, the location was great. It was close to subways and had easy access to buses. The staff was friendly and helpful. They provided everything that they said they would. They had no dining or hotel amenities.

The stay at this hotel was satisfied, I was lucky that I could stay there for the second night.

Excellent location, kind staff, shared bathrooms always clean. Fully recommended.

I am giving this hotel 5 stars, based on the value I feel that I got for my money. The location is absolutely fantastic! Right smack in the middle of everything! I went the shared bathroom route... Bathrooms were always super clean, and I never had to wait for one. My only complaint was that the water temperature in the shower sometimes fluctuated. The room was small, but this was already expected. There was a brick wall right outside our window... This was perfectly fine with me, because it stayed nice and dark for sleeping, and we spent all of our waking hours exploring. I think it's probable that we could've requested a room with a view, but again, for as little as we paid, who cares! The room itself was very clean, no bed bugs. Heat and a/c worked great. Bed was comfortable enough. I will most certainly look to stay here again the next time I visit NYC, and will recommend to friends, as well!

If all you need is a bed to sleep on, this place was OK. Bathroom down the hall was inconvenient, and the heat was so hot (in December) that we ran the AC all night to counteract it. Waste of energy x 2.

It was clean and good for what NYC has to offer, excelent locatiopn

Great location within 2 blocks of a Metro stop so very convenient. Staff was tremendously friendly and helpful. We spent a weekend at the hotel. Bathrooms (though, shared) were very clean and available when we needed them. Room was what you need from a room in NYC - a bed with quiet. Room was small, but again, why stay in your room? Our room had a view of the top of the Empire State Building, very cool. They allowed us a late check-out and held bags with no charge and very friendly service. We'd check this place out again.

When I'm in New York, I want to spend as much time possible enjoying the city, so all I really need in a hotel is a place to sleep, get cleaned up, and leave my bags...and I don't want to pay several hundred dollars per night to do this. So I was very happy with Hotel 31, as it met my needs at one of the cheapest rates in the city. The room was small and the furnishings looked like they were second hand, but it was clean and quaint. Furnishings included a single bed, desk with drawers, functioning air conditioner, tv, and alarm clock. There were also outlets for my laptop and cell phone charger. The shared bathroom (two per floor, each floor has 14 rooms) was surprisingly clean at all times, and only once during my three day stay were both bathrooms on my floor occupied at a time I needed to use one...so I just walked down one flight of stairs and found an available bathroom. The in-room sink was fine and convenient. I rarely heard or saw anyone else - the hotel was very quiet. Had a gorgeous view of the Empire State Building from my room. I only used the elevator once (prefer to walk the stairs when I can), but it is very small. There was always someone at the front desk, and I never had to wait in line. One block from the 6 subway. Don't know if I just got lucky on all accounts, but everything was satisfactory and convenient for me. But it's not the type of place for travelers who want all of the modern conveniences and special amenities and services.

I called them to confirm my reservation on the day before my travel and they were helpful to co the same. Check-in was quite quick, few minutes. After completing 10Hrs tour that was very important. No one would like to stand in queue for this. Front desk people were friendly. Pros: Location, quick check-in, Cons:Small rooms(Though common in other hotels), noisy AC
