The Ordinary Stay

The Hilton Garden Inn was a great hotel for visiting Philly. The location was great in regards to sight-seeing and food. Directly next to the hotel is Market Reading Terminal and that was a pleasant surprise.

Great location, iffy surroundings

The hotel is your standard business class hotel. Nothing special, nothing bad. Check in time was 4pm which I felt was a bit late. The entrance to the hotel is underneath the parking garage which covers the entire street like a large overpass. The result is a sometimes seedy-feeling (but apparently safe) area right around the entrance. There are a couple of shops under the overpass as well. A popular (long-distance) bus pickup is across the street, and one or two homeless people were sitting (harmlessly) along the sidewalk. While we never had a problem or felt unsafe, I wasn't expecting the entrance to feel like it was underground. There was another entrance on an adjacent street, but usually a map wouldn't point you toward that. Otherwise the location is great. Market East and a metro stop on the blue line (Market at 11th) are less than a block away. City Hall is 3 or so blocks west, and the Independence Hall area is 5-6 blocks east. It was a good, central location for exploring.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

There's a Wawa across the street from the entrance. Like all Wawa's, there are no-fee ATMs inside.

Wonderful in Philadelphia

The outstanding staff make this Hilton one of the best I have ever stayed at. They are truly to be commended. There is no view, and the entrance to the hotel in under a viaduct and one has to be a bit careful because it is the City Center, but the staff make the hotel extremely safe, relaxing, and pleasant.

Dining tip: Short walk from hotel

Great very inexpensive Chinese restaurant right across the street, and fabulous Reading Market with tons of different types of exceptional food right around the corner. For fabulous Spanish, Tinto, in walking distance, recommended. Sightseeing: the Hop on Hop off double decker bus tour was very very good and enjoyable.

Great for families not the young adult

Hotel was easily accessible from the highway and a short walk to many popular tourist locations, varying from 5 to 15 minutes. The room was clean and the staff was extremely friendly. There is a garage connected to the hotel that is extremely expensive, however, there are many other non-covered garages close by that I would recommend using. While the hotel was clean and staff was friendly I would recommend this hotel for parents looking to go to Philly with their kids and not for night owls. The hotel was extremely noisy in the morning with families opening and closing doors and yelling to one another in the hallway getting ready for the day. If you are looking to stay out late on the town and sleep in a bit this is not the hotel for you. Other than inconsiderate guests yelling in the hallway I would recommend this hotel.

Hilton Garden Philadelphia

Went to a meeting a block away at the Marriot. Much cheaper, not as nice, but if money is an object Hilton Garden is a good alternative. Excellant location for the Reading Terminal Market, Chinatown and Septa station. Has a decent gym and a pool for little kids.

Good Location

While the room was neat and clean, the amenities were scarce. Not a lot of soap or towels. The beds that were supposed to have adjustment for firmness or not did not work. The sheet was not large enough for the bed. The lobby was bland. The restroom off the lobby was FILTHY - looked like it had not been attended to in days. I will stay at another hotel next time I am in Philadelphia. I will NOT recommend this hotel to anyone.

We had dinner in Chinatown which is very close by. The Imperial Inn had great food and was very reasonably priced.

Phili in May

I attended the CSI convention and board meeting, which used teh Convention Center across the ctreet and the meeting rooms in the Marriot a block away. The Hilton Garden Inn was exceptional convenvient to both locations, and did not have the endless mazes and hussle and bussle of the Marriott. I was also albe to easily use the SEPTA train to and from the airport from downtown quickly and cheaply. Being right next to the Reading Terminal Market was also a nice perk for a quick breakfast. The Bus station and number of homeless around the market is disconcerting, but that is problem fror the city.

The heart of the city.

The hotel was in the middle of the city, right by the Convention Center, and in the middle of Chinatown. We had 3 guests, so we were given a junior suite with two double beds and a pull-out couch. The room was clean and comfortable. The only thing that was hard to find was the parking lot. I had to drive by twice in order to notice it.
