IT'S GREAT
It has the great location in Milwaukee downtown and nearby the mall. It's very easy to get food and other service there. Also, the room is small but clean. It has all the things that people need for daily life. I love the kitchen there, it is very convenient!

Great quality and value in Downtown Milwaukee
Four friends, all in our mid thirties, drove up from Chicago to see the Soundgarden show. This hotel is about a mile from the venue and got good reviews so we booked it. We were very satisfied. The room has high ceilings, which make it feel very roomy. There is a couch and chair. Two barstools and a counter in the kitchenette. It was perfect to hang out in the room before the show. There's an Irish bar named Moe's across the street. Bottom line: It was perfect for us. And the complimentary breakfast was outstanding.

Not Impressed
Thought this would be a cool place seeing as it was formerly Gimbels and Marshall Fields. Not so much. They renovated the heck out of the building and it doesn't have much of the original feel left. Also, the staff was pretty much indifferent. When we'd take the initiative to ask questions or talk to the front desk people, they'd usually come around eventually and be helpful. But walking in or out past the desk they'd ignore you completely. The breakfast buffet was marginally decent but at 9:30 they're putting food away and are obviously not happy that you're still in line trying to get something to eat. Tip to Marriott--if you plan to close the buffet at 9:30, put up a sign at 9:15 and tell people not to get in line. Will not be going back. There are too many other hotels with great deals for weekend trips--the Intercontinental, for instance. Much better choice.

Dining tip:
Short drive from hotel
Tutto's is great for simple, Italian food with the freshest of ingredients. It's a hopping place so reservations are a must for a Saturday night but you can get one the same day. And be sure to visit the Public Market--lots of good food.

Excellent Accomodations
The Residence Inn was perfect! My husband and I stayed there while on a business trip and I couldn't have asked for anything more. The rates were great, the location was prime, and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visitng Milwaukee.

BEST STAY IN MILWAUKEE
Great location. Underground parking available. Dinner at Mo's A Place For Steak. Walked there from hotel on Riverwalk. Leftovers back to hotel. Then off to see Carrie Rodriguez at The Pabst Theater. Again, walked on Riverwalk. Wonderful anniversary stay. Great complimentary breakfast at hotel. And, a rose and cookie for Moms on Mother's Day. Just perfect.

Riverwalk location
I ended up liking the hotel more than I thought. I loved the history of it being in the Gimbel's store & the old photos were wonderful. I liked the decor with some fresh lively colors. The Riverwalk is right out the door and i walked to many places including the Public Market, Third Ward, Mo's, and Borders is right inside the building. While I could not see the river out my window (8th floor) due to an architectural railing - i could look directly down Wisconsin Ave and see the Milwaukee Art Museum and the wings were open - took my breath away! Breakfast is spectacular, staff is lovely, will definitely go there again.

Exotic Locations
Great room great location
Great location right on the Riverwalk. You can walk to all the downtown tourist locations or hop on the free trolley right at the corner. Staff was so friendly. Rooms were very large and comfortable with a full kitchen. Note that you will hear noise at night from bands playing at nearby restaurants (summer only). Fun historic building. Note though that the top floor (8th floor) does NOT have the floor to ceiling windows that the other floors do.

Summerfest Lover
Perfect Place for Summerfest!
Very clean, spacious rooms. We were pleasantly surprised at the convenience of location to summerfest. Very safe and short walk to and from the festival grounds. Parking was easy and there was a decent breakfast buffet in the morning. We will definitely book a room here for 2010!
