Madrid’s Irish bars

La Ardosa is one of the oldest Irish bars in Madrid, boasting the oldest Guinness tap in the city and claims to have been the first to celebrate St Patrick’s Day. Finnegan’s celebrates the day with a special menu of Irish food while many others serve up an offering of live music to accompany a pint of the black stuff.

The morning after

Just as night follows day, so a hangover follows St Patrick’s Day, and what better way to deal with it than by taking a stroll around Retiro Park. Once a palace garden, the park offers a boating lake and cafe bars as well as Punch and Judy shows and candy floss stalls for the kids.

Pay a visit to El Rastro, a huge outdoor market that is one of Madrid’s most popular tourist attractions while one of the world’s most famous art museums, the Prado, offers masterpieces from the 12th to the 19th Century.
