A one-bedroom stone house that its owners rebuilt by hand from an old storehouse, set in a large garden planted to cool the air, with open views over the Gulf of Mirabello.
Almost everything here was made from something else. Glass bottles set into the walls colour the light indoors. The lime plaster was worked by hand. The roof is planted, which is why the house stays cool without machinery running all day.
The garden is the reason people come back. There is a herb spiral you are welcome to pick from, a keyhole bed built on the African model, a small pond with fish, and a quiet corner behind a round stone gate where most guests end up early in the morning.
Inside: one bedroom with a double bed, a living room with a sofa bed that sleeps two more, a bathroom and a full kitchen. Outside: a shaded table, a barbecue under the jasmine, and free parking.
Agios Nikolaos is a few minutes down the road. Elounda, Spinalonga, the village of Kritsa and ancient Lato are all within easy reach.
